Glock Gen4 Recoil Spring Exchange Program

Postby MrVvrroomm on Tue Sep 06, 2011 1:22 pm

I got the email below this morning:

Dear GLOCK Armorer:

On September 6, 2011, GLOCK Inc. will begin voluntarily exchanging the recoil spring assembly (RSA) on its new Gen4 pistols shipped since 2009 GLOCK’s product development team has modified various elements of the RSA to ensure each pistol’s performance meets the company’s demanding standards. With several variations of the RSA in the market today, GLOCK’s goal with this voluntary exchange is to standardize the RSA to gain the best possible performance in each pistol.

Armorers should note that Gen4 G26 and G27 models will not require a modified recoil spring.

The new RSA’s all have unique markings on the base of the part. The enclosed chart is designed to help you readily identify the correct RSA for your pistol.

Unless a directive is mandated by your agency or your store, the replacement of the Gen4 pistol’s RSA can be performed as part of the regular field-strip process. Agencies or Consumer’s wishing to participate in the exchange program at no charge are urged to call 1-877-745-8523 to order their new RSA.

For more information on the details of the exchange program, visit http://www.teamglock.com/customer-servi ... g-exchange

Here is a chart of what the latest recoil springs are for their Gen4 pistols:

I called Glock this morning for a replacement recoil spring, it took just a couple minutes and was relatively painless.

Since I'm a Glock armorer I've a couple extra, original GEN4 springs on hand and I asked if I could get those replaced also. Lady said (in so many words) "no, only one replacement spring per pistol serial number". So, I get to toss a couple brand new springs ................ sigh

I HAVE had several feeding problems with this GEN4 M-17, had a couple at an instructor workshop in July with frangible ammo (light bullets) and have had a couple here on my range with some WIMPY Remington 9mm, weak-assed, 115gr range ammo. Have had no troubles with any 9mm ammo that had a little snap to it.

Glock had a good thing with the Gen 3 guns. Why they changed the recoil spring system on the Gen 4
is a mystery. A police officer told me alot of officers are using a single spring in their Gen 4 guns.

Please define "alot". To use the old Gen3 recoil spring one has to use an adapter for the nose ring. I can't see any police departments approving this aftermarket modification.

+1

And there aren't a ton of departments that have even made the switch yet.

I would say they did it to reduce/change felt recoil. I noticed a huge differance in felt recoil when I went from a Gen 3 G17 to a Gen 4 G17. Heck my Gen 4 G22 fells a lot like my Gen 3 G17 did.

I like the slightly thinner grip on the Gen 4's as well. (with no back straps installed)

Yep I held Vroooom's Gen 4 G35 and went dam this is going to cost me money. Who would have thought I traded my Gen 3 to him for a Gen 4. He is like a dam GLOCK drug dealer. He knows once he gets you hooked you will keep coming back.
