I liken his attitude to this statement.... "Hey there buddy, Lend my $40. I'll pay you back.... I promise." or..... "Hey, let me borrow your gun for an hour.... I promise not to shoot anyone with it. BTW, can I have a ride to the bank?"

Yeah...... No...... you can't have my HiPoint.

The question always opens up a debate. It's a friendly debate with passionate people involved. No need to involve bodily functions. I have the most respect for the guys that dont stand down on their beliefs.

What question would that be? This thread has gone so many differant ways from the OP. I just want to make sure I know what question out of the three pages we are talking about.

The blanket question of what ID is required for a private sale and who is a legitimate buyer. Personally, I wouldnt sell to the kid. Even though he is well with in legality. I'm not going to others house for a gun sale. We would have to meet in a place that is safe for everyone. It sounds to me he read up on his situation. Maybe he should get his parents to buy it for him. It comes down to me is a lack of maturity.

The most glaring thing to me in the ad was: must come to me.

The whole ad was full of red flags. The only thing missing in his ad was meeting him in a dark alley, alone.

I'm one of the guys that have all the documentation needed to buy from a FFL vendor and to carry. I am also one of the guys that does not give my ID to people that don't have credentials or coverage to protect me from Identity theft. I think most people on here are trust worthy, I still need to protect my identification. Thats why I will always sign a bill of sale and see their MN ID. But I wont give my carry permit or PTP unless it is asked for by the PD or a FFL. Its amazing what people can do with very little information. <snip> IF you look at the stats. You are more likely to be a victim of ID theft than selling a gun to an individual with criminal intent. Plus, a bill of sale with a serial# shows you sold the gun and it is no longer your possession.

You've said this many, many times before - and are within your rights to do so (I guess) - but I still don't see how SHOWING someone your ID and PTP/PTC can lead to identity theft. With a quick glance at a person's ID and permit -- I don't think you've got enough info to open a bank account or credit card, no more than whats publically available already (I can get your DL# with merely your name and a rough idea of where you live).

So let me summarize what you're saying above: "I'll sell you a gun without checking to see if you're a prohibited purchaser".

I'm not selling to anyone unless I either know them personally or see their PTP/PTC and a matching state issued ID. I've sold three guns on this forum and turned down one buyer who had cash in hand because he didn't meet those requirements. I've also bought guns from two members of this forum and had no problem whatsoever providing my ID to the one who didn't personally know me. If we get a member here who is underage but shows up to some events and/or has someone I know vouch for them I'd sell to them but no way a random internet listing.

I think this same guy was posting over on the high road a while back. Yes, it would be totally legal for him to buy from a private party, provided he is not a prohibited person. The "you drive to me" thing is a bit odd. As far him wanting a Hi-point, I sell tons of them, haven't had a trace on one yet (knock on wood). There are worse choices out there for a home defense gun, or range plinker. And look at the bright side, it's not like you can hide one in your front pocket!

Naa, I don't buy "pot metal" guns !
