XD40SC Problem

Postby jp2 on Fri Aug 03, 2007 8:00 pm

My XD40SC has been flawless. Then at about round 600 the recoil spring went bad. It obiously stretched out and enlarged in diameter and caused the slide to jam. I called Springfield, they sent a new one no questions asked and the gun has been working perfect for 100 rounds so far. I won't worry too much at this point but will have to put another 600 rounds through to begin to restore full confidence in the gun.

Meanwhile the glock17 keeps running and running and running and ...........

By the way. Great new forum. I've been out of town quite a bit the last couple of months and am glad to find the cast again, even though I was more a lurker than a contributor at TCC forum.

Well, Springfield is getting better. It wasn't that long ago they made you send the gun in for spring replacement. You won't need another 600 rounds to test a spring, after that 100 you shot it should be fine. I've got an XD40SC too and it's a great little gun.

True Pat, lot of discussion about that on the XD Forum. Guys were getting mad with the hassle of sending in the gun for a spring. Some were breaking trigger springs too and they are now saying that Springfield will send them out too. They even sell spare recoil springs. This is all fairly recent, like this year.

Not that I am a frequent topic shifter, but…

Most of the really good 1911 confabulators sell springs on the very cheap; meaning, that it is a great deal less expensive to change your springs often, than to send the gun in for repair.

Five bucks ain’t bad. Though “wisdom“ says every 5k rounds, for $5.00 I’ll replace them after every 1k. Why not?

Welcome jp2, glad you're here.
Should have gone with an XD-45

Yeah Brit the XD45 may be the next purchase. Although I am tending to lean towards a sig for the next gun.

The XD40SC is a fun little gun to shoot, and it carries well. I looked for after market recoil spring assemblies but they don't appear to be available for the xd40sc yet.

Well, maybe the next gun should be a 1911 or maybe a HK99 or maybe a SW642 or maybe a Sig 220 or maybe...........

I've got an XD45 Service as well as the XD40SC. I like to carry the SC so much better. I can conceal the .45 fairly well but I don't care for the bulk vs the Sub-Compact.
