Gander Mtn. humor

Postby grousemaster on Thu Nov 10, 2011 1:14 pm

Stopped into GM today to spend the $10 gift card I got from Pheasants Forever. I was eyeing a nice used Kahr PM9, the only problem was it was listed for $799. I asked them if this was a mistake, as new ones go for much less. I was hoping they would offer it for $399 or something similar. I was told by the gun counter employee "that's Gander Mtn for ya, it's why I only work here one day a week". He went on to tell me the store manager does that on purpose as the stupid or "un-savvy" as he put it, will buy these guns. They also had a used LCP for $359, a used XD for $549.....the list goes on

As I was leaving I heard someone ask for a recommendation on his first pistol and saw another gun counter clerk explain that the Ruger SR9c was the best pistol in the $500 price range and to stay away from the Ruer LC9 as it's accuracy is only meant for "across a card table". I've witnessed guys dropping plates with authority with their little LC9's at my range. I had to bite my tongue not to help the poor guy getting swindled at the gun counter, figured it wasn't my business.

I won't be back to GM until I get another one of those gift cards. I bought a $13 box of .380 ammo with my $10 gift card and left shaking my head.

Wow, that one is very high - they have a used PM9 down here (Rochester) for like $649, which is still high in my opinion. You'll never find a used PM9 for even close to $399 though, good to dream I guess.

I have a $75 gift card for that place, just can't decide what to spend it on... I could get a gun, but the $75 off would only make it comparable to other gun shops normal prices. Just waiting for a sale on something I want... I guess.

You could get a box of 50 .45acp,

Or 1,000 federal small pistol primers,

or Id bet they would give you a $25 gift certificate in trade for your $75 one.

I wonder if they sell Visa gift cards there... I'd much rather have a $75 Visa gift card. :)

last time i was in a gander it was maple grove. some old guy came in with a screw he was looking for antoher one. the guy told him - Nope, we don't ahve a gun smith anymore. you better drive out to our woodbury store

i politely tapped the guy on the shoulder on his way out of the store and informed him of a nice little place about a 15 minute drive away called Bills gun Shop who has a very nice gunsmith and probably has a large assortment of screws.

**** SCREWS!!!! they told a 60 yr old man to drive to woodbury for a **** SCREW!!!!

And that's exactly what he would have gotten if he drove there. They'd have screwed him good.

Depending on the screw, one of the larger Ace hardware may even have want he wants. :?

What was the finish and sight type for the PM9? If it was DLC and night sight, it seems like the right price for a big box store. Not saying it is a great price, but correct price for their type.

Kahr prices vary greatly by model and options at these stores. I paid $654 shipped new with DLC and night sight. MSRP is $958.00. And this was the lowest price when I bought it from a group buy.

As for Gander, they have ridiculous prices, but when things are on sale or a deal, they seem to have low prices here and there. Too bad I only go in there during hunting seasons.

I am not sure who they hire to grade their firearms at Gander. They base the price heavily on the grade for used firearms, yet the 2 firearms I purchased from Gander online was only stated to be Good - Very Good range and looked to be NRA excellent condition grade.

I'm not sure they grade them at all...I saw a rusty 870 express there for over 200 once...by that time I think they were used to me walking in picking up a gun looking at the tag and laughing out loud

I would have done that and set em straight on different guns(assuming I knew anything about em)
