Try different ones to see what you like.
I believe Clint Smith has taught a class with the SAA.

Yes, those are very light loads. Yes, I have seen this man shoot. No, "defensive" loads would not slow him down, much. 8-) Ya should see him operate a rifle 'n a shotgun, too!

He'd lose his first REAL gunfight. Guaranteed.

Y'all can tell me why. I know you know.

I know I know! Wasn't he supposed to be looking at his attacker, not his, em, ahem, what is he looking at?

To the original poster, all I can give you is decide on wheel gun versus semi auto and go from there. Don't ask what caliber unless you want this to turn into a 30 page thread about "my caliber is better than yours etc." until it looks like this: :catfight:

The purpose of a firearm in a defensive situation is to make the other guy leak from holes he was not born with. Your job is to install those orifices for him.

From the experiences of a seasoned traveler, the most horrible words you can ever hear:

"Try this, it is MY favorite."

Again, seek your own way. Find what suits YOU. Many firearms have been designed to suit almost any situation and personal need. Which is why we have firearms with the safety located on the trigger. :rotf:

I'm sure he knows why.

He's damned good at shooting for time, though. I'm sure he'd beat just about anyone man v man.

Ruger Mark 3 / 22-45 or a Browning Buckmark + training and a lot of range time. Once you get some experience rent or borrow different pistols & calibers until you figure out what you like, should be able to make your own decision about what second pistol to buy (lots of good options in this thread) from there. Good luck!

I agree.
