I've shot a Marlin, a Winchester, and now use a Uberti ... different models ... but there's a reason the Uberti '73 is "most used" ... it's simply the best!
I don't own any Uberti pistols ... I've got Vaqueros ... fer $400 - $500+, a Vaquero's an awful lotta gun, fer the money.
My buddy shoots Beretta's (
made by Uberti) and Uberti's. The Beretta's were early guns, and had some issues ... Beretta took care of him, no charge! Beyond that, from what I've handled of 'em, they're fine guns. If not fer my Vaqueros, I wouldn't hesitate to buy 'em.
I believe Uberti markets a few different models of the basic '73 Peacemaker pattern. Cattleman is among the least expensive. Obviously, part of that is the finish. No clue if that extends, to the innards ... or to what extent.
However, in several years of shootin' SASS, there's been more than a few folks using Cattlemans, Stampedes (
Beretta), and other Uberti models. Only problem I ever heard of was with my buddy's early Stampedes. However, I HAVE heard more than one guy complain 'bout his Colt breaking.
At which, if ya don't want a gun that's likely to break, don't get a Colt.
Does that mean a Vaquero's a "better" gun, than a Colt?
