Getting Expensive to Shoot

Postby traveler on Sat Nov 12, 2011 4:15 pm

I went into Wal-Mart in Eagan today and bought two boxes of WWB 9mm. I saw that they had 45 Colt for $22.95/box. I asked if those were 50 round boxes (I couldn't see well enough to tell and they weren't marked on the end of the box). They were Winchester brand, 255 grain lead round-nose. The clerk took a box out and checked: 20 round boxes! Over $1.00 a round. :o

I'm not sure about .45 Colt but I just bought a 100 round box of Winchester .45 ACP 235 grain for $35 today at Walmart. Seems on par with current pricing.

45 ACP is reasonable as hell. The only two things that I have problems with (this involves the whole world  ) are .380 and .45 Colt. Neither seems to be reasonable considering the amount of brass, powder, and lead. I guess it is due to lower demand.

Yeah if it's a semi exotic ammo; it's probably not worth it to manufactures to be changing tooling for it. It might even cost them money to not keep up with demand for other rounds which is passed on to you.

Yes. I even have a whack-a-mole in 45 colt. The press is set up for .38 Special and I am lazy. Besides I don't have that much brass in .45 Colt, about 150 pieces. I should have bought more from the fellow that was selling some here. I wanted to buy, then changed my mind. Bad decision I guess.

Remarkable! ... my first-ever venture into reloading was a whack-a-mole ... also in .45 Colt.

God what a miserable little hunk 'o junk! Image

150pcs is plenty to load a "batch" ... shoot 'em, reload 'em ... repeat.

whats this "getting" expensive to shoot? Since when (in my lifetime) was it not expensive to shoot? I never got to see those good old days. I can remember cheaper, but it still wasn't cheap.

When the day comes I can shoot 1,000 rounds of .45 acp in a day, and call it cheap I will let you know, but so far its never happened. If you have an expensive gun to feed, and don't reload, and can't afford it, I'm sorry but I'm not sorry.

I will take that gun off your hands for a modest fee however ;)

Lol, last week I ordered 500 rounds of 9mm for $100, including shipping to my house! (cabelas) Gander can't even compete on black friday!

I think you can still get the deal, my dad got some last night.

Go to cabelas and hunt for the 9mm S&B ammo deal. It's 9.99 per box. If you buy over 99 dollars, and enter "wgifts" it's free shipping.

So, you end up with a case of brass 9mm for $212 or so shipped (I think there is tax).
