Yeah I'll be heading outdoors to zero it some afternoon this week, though I'm hoping to get by with just the 20 round box I already got. Figure maybe 3 to zero, and if I can't hit a deer with the remaining 17 then it probably just wasn't meant to be. :)

I tested the (Appleseed talking) "cheek weld, turkey neck" and I dunno if it's just because I have a supersize head or what, but the extra height works really well for me, as is!

I have given this topic some thought while I was sitting out on my tree stand while holding 2 different rifles over 2-day period because the 26" and 20" rifles I took were still a little too heavy for hauling with the tree stand.

I believe I gave the idea of 7.62x39 ammo being SP more important than the accuracy one's AK-47 would provide. I have seen or read about cheap AK to moderately priced AK vary in accuracy. Unless you spend nice chunk of change on Krebs or other high quality custom built AK, I am not sure I could trust it beyond 100 yds when I want just one accurate shot from a cold barrel.

My AK is a Saiga, I'm pretty sure they're more accurate than I am to maybe 300 yards.

Turns out it didn't matter anyhow. I brought both my 12 gauge and the Saiga, but my brother said (and I concurred) that since we'd most likely be in heavy brush/ forest, and likely not be taking any shots beyond 100 yards max, that the shotgun was the better choice. So that is what I used. :)

Two things I do NOT want for my first deer hunting outing: getting shot, and getting in trouble.

When did the mag capacity change? It used to be 5 round for a detachable, but no limit for a tube/permanently fixed mag.

I could be wrong, but I thought detachable box mags had a limit, but tube mags did not.

I recall it being the rule many moons ago, but I'm not sure when it changed. I *think* about 14-15 years ago.

The deer cannot sense me, for I am learned in the ways of the ancients and have masked my human scent. I wear no clothes save for the loincloth crafted from the 40-point buck I slew on the eve of my fifth birthday. Once the time has arrived, I throw myself down upon the deer's back and proceed to choke it out, using the technique perfected by none other than The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. If the deer should happen to throw me off (which doesn't happen often, but did last year since my strength was comprimised from the previous week's hand-to-hand combat with a black bear), I maintain the grip with my legs and force it to submit to a triangle choke. Once the hunt is complete, I plunge my hand into the deer's viscera and pull out its heart, devouring the still-warm and steaming muscle and gaining the knowledge of the deer and all those before it.
