Postby Ryan S on Tue Nov 22, 2011 10:40 am

Just wondering if anybody knows of a rang(s) where yoh can draw from a holster? Specifically courious about beaverbrook in ham lake, or forest lake gun club? If anybody has any info it would be a great help.

I know that most ranges frown upon it, simply because lots of folks have no idea what they are doing, and want to be cowboys. This will result in a bullet hole in either the ceiling or a foot/leg, or a round leaving the range in an outdoor facility.

I can draw from a holster at my range during private hours, but people still give me a funny look about it.... even though I have done it (quite literally) a million times.

Get a membership at a private range, or start competing. If you do some USPSA you will get all the draw practice you could ever want.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

Yeah- Oakdale Gun Club will allow members (and members ONLY!!) to draw from holster, but it's best if you do it on the short range or in the 25 yard range at 21 feet WITH VERY FEW OTHER PEOPLE AROUND, and with the backstop in the 25 yard range being so high, it would be tough for a bullet to get out of there.

;) i hate to say it, but you're pretty much SOL unless you're a private member with a blessing or you're on private/public land somewhere.

geta DNR map and see where the closest county forrest is at ;)

I plan to do both. Just trying to get an idea of ranges that allow it, so i can start looking into joining/ getting on a waiting list. Thanks for the info!

Faribault range is a good place for this. They have pistol bays that are vacant unless there is a competition going on.

No waiting list either, I believe membership is around $75.

Wow, that's over 4,000 times a month over a 20 year span.

OP:
I don't recall anything in the rules at the Rochester club, but that's quite a drive for you.

BeaverBrook allows holster work. That's the main reason I joined

Actually it's only 45 minutes of practice per day over 5 years, very attainable if done in 3x15 minute sessions!

You can do all the holster work you want at home. I'd recommend an unloaded gun for this.
