I actually bought a handgun from the Maple Grove GM last winter. I was in there for something unrelated when I first saw it, but the price was way too high. I inquired about it and was told that only the manager was able to adjust pricing. It sounded like more of a hassle than I cared to deal with at the time, so I thanked them and left. It was still there a month later, and they came down a bit when I asked them about it. They're not very knowledgeable, and the service was pretty mediocre, but I expected as much on my way in there and thus wasn't disappointed. I think the transfer paperwork alone took them an hour to figure out.

I've never bought a gun at GM, and for the same reason as everyone else. I've had similar experiences there, as far as staff "too busy" jawing with each other or just plain ignoring customers. I may open a whole new can o' worms here, but it reminds me of Worst Buy - idiots trying to bs you, and if you shop around you realize that their deals aren't any better than anyone else. I have caught a few deals at GM, but I'll bet for the number of trips it takes me to save a few bucks there, I easily spend that in gas.

That said, I have to ask the general wisdom at large (here) whether the Lakeville store may be the corporate answer to problems the people at the top know all too well? In other words, I walked in there after the remodeling and the difference was downright shocking - not only the new training facility, but the new firearms section in general. Isn't this a step in the right direction?

Now, I'm not saying their prices are any better, but doesn't it seem like some of thr other gripes are being addressed, even if it's in Gander's own unique way? Just asking, because I can't decide whether I like it or not.

Saw on another site that Gouger Knoll is pulling its reloading stuff from the shelves. They only charged like $35 for a pound of powder, so they won't be missed.

The place I DO miss is the Sportsmans Warehouse in Coon Rapids. They were close, actually carried things I would buy, and had great pricing. They didn't have the Bills attitude or the GM incompetence, either. I was sorry to them go.

A few years ago dad and I were i'm Worst Buy looking to buy projector and sound system for a home theater set up. We were both in worn Carhartt jackets and jeans it was not busy buy I think we walked around the home entertainment dept for a good half hour before we had to stop someone and ask for help. They were to"busy"and pushed us off on another salesperson. it got to be rather comical after awhile

+1...Dick's is in there now. :(

I was in GM in Maple Grove yesterday and it appears that location will be closing shortly. The employee I talked to said that management was hoping to milk it out til Feb. 1st but he thought they would be pretty much done by Xmas. I'm not surprised, I've never had decent service there, only went in because the wife was Xmas shopping next door and I wanted to avoid that as well.

There were two used LCP's in the case priced at $349 each..

It really is hit or miss with their used inventory. Over the years I've seen everything from a mint (used) S&W 686 for $349, to a Hi-Point .40 for $499.

I'm of the firm belief that the people that work there either don't have any idea what they are doing, don't care that the pricing is that far off....

Or both.

Either way they can inhale flatulance from my sphinchter.

They probably took in a Raven Arms .25ACP from the same guy that traded in your wingmaster, and since it's shiny chrome they will ask $859 for it.

Maple Grove sold Pete a victory colt .38 (gun we sent to England before entering WW2) for $250 - valued at 500 by him. They had it tagged as the importer who brought it back here and tried to change the price when he insisted the receipt be corrected to be a colt gun. They ended up selling it for the original sticker price, but he had to threaten legal on them first.

I can count everything I've ever bought from gander on one hand. I still stop in when I have the time and am in proximity, I get a chuckle and see things I might want to look for elsewhere. The brainerd store is the only other game in town next to wally world and fleet farm.

I stop in about once or twice a month and look at used guns laugh at 99% of them but every now and then you find the wingmaster or snubbie that is way undervalued and I buy them on the spot. If would have left that gun another day it would have been gone. The sales lady even said she didn't recognize it.

I asked a "Firearms" sales associate if they carried Carlson's choke tubes. The guy said he had been a shot gunner his whole life and had never heard of such choke tube brand. Two thoughts came in my head....Has he ever even shot a gun before and why in the world wouldn't GM sell one of the most popular brand choke tubes on the market.
