Mosin "Bubba" build off

Postby Anokamnman on Sat Dec 03, 2011 2:29 pm

Okay. There are a few of us sporterizing mosins. Let's get this event established and set some rules. Completion date ... Anyone want to set the completion date? No later than May 1, 2012? Must be a mosin nagant. Hex or round doesn't matter. All work must be done by the owner. No professional gunsmiths.

Right now the competitors are:
goett047
ANOKAMNMAN
STRADAWHOVIOUS

Let me know if you want in. I will make a trophy for the "BEST BUBBA"

I set the completion date out a ways because we should be moving to our new property in the Pine City area around that date. The shoot off and beauty contest will be at my place a few weeks later.

What other rules should we have?

Wrap that around your overly muscled left wing and row your dinghy in counterclockwise circles as a result.

allright - here's my $0.02

since some of the work involved on these requires some heavy duty tooling not available in an ACE hardware store - i propose that we modify the "DIY/no gunsmith" rule slightly. no pro gunsmiths still applies, however, you may work on a break, barrel cutting/crowing or head spacing with someone who is NOT A GUNSMITH but is not you. you have to be involved in the process, you can't jsut pay them for services rendered.

or perhaps we limit the "helping" to people involved in the contest? that way it's more of a learning and sharing activity than just forking over cash.

the point to this activity in the first place was to f-around with guns!!!!!! not just pay some chump to do it for you. anyone can do THAT

also - there needs to be a prize. i'll step up to the plate, since Mr. Mosin was a russian and Mr. Nagant was actually a Belgian, i'm going to donate a 1 liter bottle of the cheapest russian vodka i cna possibly find and one bottle of a delightful belgian microbrew to the prize pool.

i now put this farce of idiocy open to judging criteria and panel of "experts" :D :D :D

I will see what I can dig up that is russian to as to the prize pool.

I agree with the rule change that shipyard has suggested. That'd kind of what I was going towards. I have a bridgeport mill available on weekends if you need access let me know. I even have extra material laying around.

I have a, feeling that this is going to be a lot of fun.

suggestion/thought: should we set a dollar limit? i mean, one of the overriding themes is to do this as rediculous/cheap as possible. i don't think Strad has even broke $100 yet

Ceiling of $200 optics included? i mean, the stock rifle is $80 to $100....

remember, if you're making or modifying it yourself, scrap heaps and the Axman are your friend. :P

open for discussion :D

I an fine with a spending limit. I plan on using scrap metal that I have laying around to mill a gas block rail type system to mount the laser to. And make a scope mount for a $20 scope I have in the closet. I might spend some money on modifying a telescoping ar buttstock into a folding stock for the FRANKENMOSIN. I am going all out on this.
