i'm looking for a holster, need some help!

Postby rukwikenuf on Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:16 pm

i have a Taurus model 669, with a 6" barrel. i've been really considering carrying this gun OWB, but i can't find a suitable holster! i want a leather holster with a thumb break (i know, a good holster doesn't need retention, mine does, cuz that's what i want)

from what i can gather, the Taurus model 669 is similar enough to the GP100 Ruger, the K&L frames from S&W, Colt Python and King Cobra, and the Llama Comanche. this is all taken from the Bianchi website. i'm liking the model 5BHL, but not set on it http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/Pro ... delID=5BHL
also, if i wasn't clear, i don't want a nylon Uncle Mike's holster, i don't want a kydex one either

any idea where i can go to find one? i know theres some on Gunbroker, but i'd kinda like to see it and check it out before i buy. wierd, i know

or, do any of you know of a holster that is a quality product that will fit? maybe one of you has one?! lemme know

Gee..... If only you frequented a place that had an entire wall full of holsters, and had the ability to order in what they didn't have in stock......

Hmm....... I wonder if you spend much time in a place like that......

Daily.

i'm just askin for assistance! jeeze!

BTW, i just got a job at Bill's, and though i have a carry permit, they don't allow single action pistols. therefore i can't carry my 1911. my 357 is the only double action i have, as i've made an agreement to sell my FNP-40

also, i don't know how much the guys at work know about revolvers. plus, i'm not working there daily, only Friday Saturday and Sunday! thanks for bustin' my balls though Strad :D

So wait, I have to pick up on this (not directing this at you Rukwikenuf). Bills does not allow their employee's to carry 1911's? They sell 1911s, rent 1911s, teach carry courses where 1911s are not disavowed and yet disallow their use as a carry gun? Squib Joe, say it ain't so... Might have to pull their gun store card. JMB would be rolling over in his grave if he knew...

I was informed by John Bernice (sp?) when I interviewed that no single action pistols were allowed, and this pre-dated his lenghty employment there. I was also told there's a possibility that I could carry my 1911hammer down on a loaded chamber, but that seems a bit blasphemous to me. Plus, I don't think any other sales guy has a revolver on their hip. I like to be differentdifferent

Not really. The Glock action (as I understand it) is not truly defined as SA or DA. The trigger doesn't completely reset the striker/action (as it would with a DA type action) since the cycling of the slide partially resets the striker, but it does partially reset the striker when engaged, setting it completely before allowing it to come forward and strike the primer (whereas with a SA action the striker/hammer/whatever would be FULLY set after the action cycled, and the trigger's only function would be to release it).

So you're both wrong. :P

Probably. :?

Or I am.

Either way.

Whys the policy towards employees make you unhappy? Its really no different than a police department dictating what their officers can and cannot carry on the job. Keep in mind most customers I've talked to are not as well educated as we are
They might be freaked out by a 1911 cockes and locked. Plus, its an excuse for me to get some gun leather that I hadn't considered until recently

Because its a frikkin gunstore and if they cant trust there employees well
As a customer I can carry and shoot 1911s or any other single action or even buy one from them, I can rent and shoot full autos and have employees rent full autos to a customer but they cant carry single actions.

All the more reason for them to educate the customer. Police departments are not gun experts, Bills is. Let's say Bills said, "if you are going to carry in my store, we are going to go onto the range and you, employee are going to show me you can safely handle your side arm", fine, I can support that, but this policy just makes no sense and perpetuates myths and fears of the non-gun public.

Once again, not directing this at you, If you want to carry a revolver, that is great. Just suprised at Bill's policy.
