Looking at a TC in 223 14 bull with scope. Anything I should be aware of as to age etc?

I'm and Encore guy, but they are about the same thing.
Great guns.
Just make sure it locks up tight, and opens ok. Check the bore of course.

They're pretty simple really. Not alot to go wrong on a single shot.

I shoot a Encore 15 inch barrel in 7mm 08, and it works great on whitetails down here where we can't use rifles.

Good Luck

I had a 222 in a 10"Bull TC Contender.
Loved it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been kicking myself in the azz ever since I sold it, and now you stirred it up again.
Shot great - I used IMR4227 powder because of short barrel.
Loads were HOT but Fun.

Enjoy - I have a 4X Leupold pistol scope if you want to try it sometime.

EDIT - I've also had:
30-30
30 Herret
357 Herret
357 Maximum
44 Magnum
45Colt / 410 10" barrel + choke splitter

I still have:

22 LR 10" Bull with target sights
22 Hornet Octagon Barrel 10"
256 Mag 10" Bull
7mmTCU 10" Bull
444 Marlin in 14" bull (re-chambered 44Mag)

and dont think I forgot anything.

I have a Contender with a 12" Bullberry barrel chambered in .221 Fireball that is topped with a Burris 7X LER scope. Use to team up with my son on prairie dogs, he shot a .223 prone and I shot the Contender off a bench made from an old camera tripod. When laying prone the dog was his if he could see it, if he could not see it and I could because of the extra 2 feet of elevation, then that dog was mine. :D

I also have another with a older barrel that has been re-chambered in .410. Use that basically for close range vermin control in my yard and not much more.

Pretty much what minnesothaunter says, make sure it locks up tight and maybe any indications of home gunsmithing.

How old of Contender? I believe there are at least 3 styles of Contenders out there as far as the rimfire/centerfire selector goes. The newer models I believe have a selector on the top of the hammer, the middle generation has a sliding bar in the hammer to select and I think the oldest models a screwdriver has to be used to select between rimfire and centerfire. May be wrong on this, hopefully someone that has more knowledge will step up with correct info if I am.
