It's hard to see what it's role is. You're not going to wear it to bed. So you hear a bump in the night. Grab your gun, grab your flashlight grab your cell, call 911 and then put on your vest.

All in less than 1.2 seconds as the bad guy comes down the hall and into the bedroom as you are still waking up from a sleep stupor. :?

Vest has holster, mag pouches, flashlight pouch.

Hear door being kicked in, put on vest, draw gun, draw light, call 911.

I don't know about your house, but in mine, the BG is going to have to do some exploring to find my room, unless he comes through my window (unlikely).

I have to admit when i saw this my initial reaction was that this had mall ninja written all over it. I still stuggle to find a realistic senario that a civilian would need/use one of these. I guess in an hd situation it is at the very least plausible that one might have the time to go ahead and throw it on. Oddly for $199 i kind of want to check it out. Maybe its my supressed inner mall ninjaness trying to get out :D

I think that body armor is going to be a growing trend in personal protection, especially with the drop in price and improvements in technology. In five or ten years I can imagine we'll have clothing that adds ballistic protection with nearly no added weight. Seems like a smart direction for these companies.

is it profesional level or going to stop a 30-06, no. does it need to? i duno...

for $200 or less, i could see having soemthing like this in the trunk of the car or in the basement for a non-home invasion senario i.e. hurricane, tornado, civil unrest, going to your buddies kegger on the north side...

might be a good addition to a bug out bag or the survival food stores you have burriedi n the back yard. i'd put one in with my weapons stash but unfortunately all my guns ended up at the bottom of the lake on my last hunting trip :?

Yeah, but look at the types of weapons bubba-gang-banger typically uses in his crimes -- a .22, .32, 9, a shotty -- and what does he shoot? Whatever's cheapest at Wally World, .22 bulk pack, FMJ or #9 birdshot. I think these'll stop that.

Your probably right. But sometimes its somebody who has already been inside your house. Your daughters stalker ex boyfriend who can't live without her for example. Maybe the guy who just stopped by to look at the plasma you listed on Craig's list. Or could even just be a BG that has been watching your house. Usually the last room in the house to turn out the lights at night is the bedroom.

Regardless. They aren't going to get in, and then to where the people are sleeping faster than you'll wake up after the door gets kicked off its hinges and the dogs go nuts.

Hell, the dogs will go nuts before the door gets kicked.

If they can get in so fast or so quiet you can't react, either you neglected some portion of security procedures, you are using substandard materials and hardware to construct your house, or they are so highly skilled and trained that it's a foregone conclusion anyways.

And in the event that you don't have time to don a vest, you are in the same position you were when you didn't have a vest.

Decide that a vest might not be a cost effective choice for you if you so choose (in fact, that's the decision I've made personally, at this point in my life), but to argue that protective gear provides no benefit is asinine.

Joe, they show it stopping all those rounds, however, how is the transfer of energy handled? Like to see some metering of energy delivered (blunt force) to person being shot. Considering that purely stopping a bullet does not prevent severe traumatic (potentially lethal) injury from occuring.
