We’ve started setting up some courses and I have a few questions. I think we want to model this after the IDPA competitions rather than IPSC if there’s much of a difference.
I drew up some quick sketches so you can see our courses we’ve made so far. There’s a huge railroad berm about 50 feet beyond the farthest target, and the berm is at least 30 feet tall, both courses are shooting directly into the berm. There are two houses that are barely visible, one is mine, the other is my brothers, and they are both behind the shooter.
I have room for at least 2 more setups in this area, shooting into this berm, and I also have another couple areas that I’ve got some ideas for as well. Along with an existing 100 yard range. I’m working on some pop up targets, and movers but haven’t got to them yet.
I have a lot of 55 gallon drums and they are the blue circles in the drawings.
I also have a lot of scrap lumber and wooden doors, that’s what we’re using for cover. Some of the doors have windows that we are shooting through (glass removed)
The black ovals represent the shooters and their position to the targets.
The “H” objects are the target stands of various heights, 18.25” wide.
Here’s the questions:
1. Are you supposed to double tap each target in IDPA?
2. Are there supposed to be two targets in each shooting position or is one ok?
3. The term “course of fire”, does that mean one complete “run” so in these examples, there are two “courses of fire”?
4. Distances. Do these distances look OK? Is there a max and min distance we should be going for?
We’re still new at this competitive shooting stuff, but I think for our first attempt, we have a fun little setup right now! I’ll try to get some pics on here quick.
We still need to get a shot timer, but for now we’re using the android apps. If anyone has one they want to sell, let me know.
Still looking for input and ideas so if you want to come out let me know on that too!
