Yeah, the cocobolo that came with the gun are awfully nice looking, but I ordered a set of CZ factory rubber grips for comfort, and to keep the wood grips in good shape.

Those rubber ones were on the one I handled... They are nice.

Still, I have to say I believe that the CZ pistol design is the only significant improvement on the 1911.

You're wrong, 1911 breath!! The CZ pistol design is an improvement on the Browning 1935 Hi-Power. Just reverse the rails on the frame and slide, and you got a CZ (more or less...) The barrel hookup and also the field strip procedures for the 1911 are completely different from a CZ. They're virtually identical to the Browning Hi-Power.

The CZ borrows from the Browning Paradigm it is true, it also borrows from the Sig 210 as well, the slide riding inside the frame that is. It is an incredibly interesting and much combied design, from Tangolio, to Turkey, China, and even a country or two in Africa, heck the Baby Desert Eagle is pretty much a blocky CZ since the Israelis are fans of the design as well. One day I want an SA and compact model both in .40 but that day'll have to wait until I get a few other guns that I want just a tad more. To me it's one of the best handguns ever made and oddly one of the least recognized/respected. I certainly prefer it to the Beretta 92, never being a fan of the M9 in service, I give it an ergonomic edge on the HP (big hands, it just feels better and the BHP feels damn good, and it certainly for me at least points and shoots better than a Glock. I've always wondered how it came to be such an excellent if underrated firearm, I know Colonel Cooper liked it and it was the basis for the horrible yet quirky failure that was the Bren Ten for Dornus and Dixon.

The Bren Ten stemmed from the CZ-52, back at the time when getting guns exported out of a Communist bloc nation was damn near impossible, and the real problem was not being able to get any mags. As such, the first Bren Tens shipped from D&D WITHOUT EVEN ONE MAG!!  Needless to say, royally pissing off all your first customers pretty much dooms any business from the git-go. There was one at Gunstop recently in mint condition for $2400, but why bother when you can get a 10mm EAA Witness for $449? If you Google "10mm pages" you may still find an old website that has tons of data on all the early models.

Seems Vltor is keeping up the legacy of Dornus and Dixon shame, they've been promising the recreate the Bren Ten for years now, even getting permission to use the Gunsite raven. Still haven't seen hide nor hair of it, which is a shame, I was thinking they might pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat. I guess Miami Vice really soured some owners since it was obvious that the company was providing the show plenty of magazines for use in the .45 caliber Brens used on the show. I guess there's a source with the Mec Gar mags but they don't hold up very well.

Really thinking I ought to go ahead and take the bite this summer and get a P-01 or an SA model CZ.
