Kel Tec PF9

Postby PHATSPEED7x on Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:50 pm

Commission, and Overtime just me some extra coin. I went to my local gun shop which is sadly having a retirement sale. I went and got me a Kel Tec PF9. Always wanted one, and I knew he had a bunch of them in stock. Everything must go, and I a pretty decent deal I thought. Paid $280 OTD. I put a box of Winchester white box through it, and all I can say is WOW!!!!!! Snappy little thing! But not too bad to shoot, and pretty darn sweet shooting. I know it's a very popular carry gun. Another guy who was in the store got one too.

When I asked someone who carries one everyday how they shoot. His comment was "violent little bastard". I shot my PF9 today as a matter of fact. Kind of fun to shoot, I think.

Violent little bastard for sure. I made the mistake of trying to run all 200 "break-in" rounds through mine in one session. That hurt!

I've had mine for several years and love the little thing.
Being so flat, I can carry it with an inside the belt holster, or with my ankle holster, and still be comfortable.

Great gun, and photo man said it best. "Violent little bastard"

Glad to know everybody's digging these things. Anyone tried the side clip instead of a holster?

Near worthless and it doesn't cover the trigger, plus the rivets on my jeans scuffed the finish on mine.

Get a decent pocket holster that covers the trigger -- and this guy slides nicely into a front pocket on everything.

I love my PF9. I carry it when my pants or shirt are too tight for me to carry my PT145.

I don't consider the sub compact nines to have that bad recoil but I recently traded my Taurus 709 slim for a 740 slim, now that touches the edge of violent little bastard :o .

Anyone have to send theirs back to kel-tec for anything? I know they had a lot of issues when they first came out, but I would assume most of the bugs should be worked out by now.

Also, in your opinions, is this thing too snappy to be comfortable for a newer shooter? Thinking of getting one for my wife.

Shooting the PF9 doesn't bother me at all, but I've had some pretty big friends of mine say that it had too big of a bite for them, and bought something else.

I would have your wife shoot one before spending money on it.

The Kel Tec P32 is a real sweet gun for a woman. I had one, but sold it to buy another pistol that I wanted.

GAME CHANGER ALERT........
The plus one mag extension changes the whole ergonomics of the pistol. more to hold on both the front and back of the grip.
Don't listen to me just try it Kel-Tec should sell it w/ a reg and a +1 mag.

Isn't putting it in your pocket close enough to holding the thing on the inside of your pants with no trigger guard? Does the clip just not hold tight? Installation on the gun kinda cheesy? I'm not worried about the finish on the clip if no one's supposed to see it anyway.

When pocket carrying, I use a pocket holster to cover the trigger or an IWB holster that retains the gun AND covers the trigger.

So far mine has been 100% reliable. Even with steel cased ammo. With the little magazine extension installed it fits my hand perfect, and I have no problem controlling the recoil.

I set up a 8" target @ 7yds and tested accuracy...

Seven round (one magazine) group. The one shot outside the inner ring I slapped the trigger on. All the other shots were staged trigger, and taking my time with the shot.
