most folks would have started a new thread instead of changing the original post and making it seem like those answering are having a totally different conversation.

I just wish I would've gotten the 1 moa dot around a 65 moa ring instead of 2 one moa dots around a 65 moa ring. If you can save up the cash get the ACOG. It's such a great sight and having the 4x magnification is awesome.

ACOG- Best
Eotech- Good, especially with a magnifier
Aimpoint- wouldn't use it for airsoft (YMMV)

I had one for all of MOB and the first few months of my deployment until I had my EO shipped here. I've noticed that the lenses are much easier to scratch than my EO. Now when I say that. When we weren't on mission the dust covers on my AP were on and the entire time I was in Iraq with my EO on I never got more than a smudge on my lenses. The dot on my aimpoint also has an artifact that wasn't there until our second week in county. It looks like a "P" filled in rotated 45 degrees counter clockwise. Battery life is excellent though. I've never changed the batteries on mine.

YMMV. I know guys that swear by them, others think they'd be better off pitched in the sand.

I have a few Eotechs and a couple of Aimpoints. My thoughts:

If Eotech is your choice, I think the XPS/EXPS line is a better option because of the transverse-mounted CR123 battery. My preference has been the Eotech OPMOD that is sold by Optics Planet - IMHO, the most cost-efficient of the Eotech lineup. That is an EXPS3 with night vision disabled. I prefer lower-third co-witness so the 7mm riser is important to me. I also like the QD mount. I didn't care for the OPMOD billboard graphics so I had it Cerakoted for $25.

I have an Aimpoint T-1 with 4 MOA dot. I don't like it. Smaller tube, blobby dot, annoying internal reflections. Maybe the new 2MOA version is better. I'm not interested regardless.

I also have an Aimpoint PRO (2MOA dot). That's a nice optic and at $400 or less, likely the most cost-efficient choice available for a quality optic.

I do have an Eotech G23.FTS magnifier that I interchange between rifles. I don't use it much. It works great with the Aimpoints as well as the Eotechs, although it does turn the 4MOA dot on the T-1 into a comma-shaped blob. Eotech has a new version of their magnifier just introduced at SHOT and not for sale yet - don't know much about it other than it's a twist-off mount and is diopter-adjustable.

Huh. I hadn't heard that about an Aimpoint's dot before. I've had my Aimpoint M4s for about two years now. Haven't noticed anything with the reticle. Of course I haven't used it as much as I'm sure you used yours. I still don't treat mine nicely in any sense of the word and the lens bikini has been off for a few months.

I did pick up a OPMOD EXPS2-0 a month or so ago but have yet to try it, other than in my hand. I'm waiting for my next upper. Who knows when that will be.

A little bit of astigmatism will create some variability in the way a person sees that dot, More of an issue on Aimpoints, especially the 4MOA versions. Eotech, less of a problem.
