Decided to reload some 45's for the first time in forever tonight. I cracked into a bag of range brass I picked up somewhere I don't remember... In the bag i found a bunch of military brass, lots of lake city headstamps witch was cool.

One thing I did find was a ton of WCC stamped.brass. I've always assumed the two numbers on the stamp were the year manufactured. i found some WCC 84, 78, 62... and then i started seeing these:

mostly WCC, some stamped RA with a 41 or a 42.

can anyone confirm or deny if this is actually brass from WWII???


i know this stuff is still floating around out there, midway USA just dig up a bunch of crates of i thik it was 1943 vintage 45 ACP. it is just kind of wobbling my mind that i might be holding in my hand brass made when my Grandfather was 6 years old and the threat of Fascism was alive, well, and marching across Europe with a stomp and a canister of Zyklon....

If that is the year..just imagine the last thing that bullet saw after that round went off. That's crazy to think about. I have a Japanese flag that I was told was from a jap tank batalion, a whole bunch of signatures on it, some stamped and some hand signed. It was supposidly taken by my grandfathers uncle, have a few newspaper articles showing it. Feels strange to hold onto something that's 70+ yrs old and was flown proud by the enemy in the 2nd World War.

I have come across some early 80's WCC 9mm cases. I have yet to find one older then I am but some of the people I shoot with it is possible.

You are right. RA is Remington and WCC is Winchester, and with the numbers 41 and 42 make it from way back then.

Well the threat of fascism is still alive and well. Ammo lasts a long time if it's stored right and used mercury fulminate primers. The newer primers haven't been around long enough to really tell how long they'll last...but from what I've read it seems promising.

One of my Sergeants at work (who was also a Sergeant in the Army... E5 I believe) told me they were still shooting off .50BMG rounds from WWII that were made at the Twin Cities ammo plant. They used them for practice and drills. He was in Basra only five or six years ago.

Yup, Rockford Arsenal 1942. Still finding cases like that out at OGC. I have a deep-set religious conviction that I will never reload an case that is older that I am, and I'M OLDER THAN TOOTSIE!! The Horror! The Horror! Do know a guy who has ten years on me in reloading named Reloader Fred, and he will reload this stuff. Obviosly it has to be brass cased, or it won't reload. The steel cases came in in 1943 and 1944, because brass was getting scarse. As a side effect, pennies in the US in 1943 and 44 were struck in steel rather than copper, which made them very collectable. So yeah, it's reloadable. The cases I have NEVER seen are any 1941 headstamp, because there was no war and our ammo stockpile was pedicated on 20 years of peace.

My grandma still has her wedding dress, that was made out of japanese parachutes, IIRC. Not sure why though. Maybe it was nicer fabric than they could afford at the time?

I've got some old stuff. Try to keep it rather than reload it.

Silk was scarcer then hen's teeth, so it was probably a nice snag for granny when she was youngster.

Depending on the amount, I'd offer it up for someone who collects that sort of stuff.
