9mm Target Gun

Postby mmcnx2 on Sun Jan 29, 2012 8:18 pm

I'm thinking about a new 9mm for some paper punching.

Looking at a Dan Wesson Pointman Nine, a CZ 75-SA, Springfield Loaded, STI Trojan. Not looking to carry it just want something that is accurate, great trigger and full size.

Any other suggestions/recommendations, want new and $1200ish?

how about the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow?

that's a much nicer platform than the standard CZ 75B-SA, however it's double action

or you could go Springer XDm 5.25 in 9mm

Jon Thompson is a dealer for STI and has built several I believe. Call him at 763 263-9587 and see if my memory is correct and the price is what you want. A GLOCK 34 or M&P Pro are both great shooters right out of the box!

Love CZ 75's, but, the Dan Wesson will be my next 1911. Someone here just got a DW, and was quite pleased with himself.

Thanks for the referal to Jon, however if I do an STI I'll have Brazo build me another one. The Glock and M&P are not quite the level I'm looking for, had a 34 and it was a great gun but not the accuracy or trigger quality for serious paper punching.

I'd spend a lot less... think Springfield XDm9... 19+1, buy a few extra magazines... I have 5 mag, so when I get there I can shoot 95 rounds without reloading a magazine.

I love the CZ platform, and if I had cash to burn I have always wanted one of these:

Then try a Glock 17L.

With their combat triggers and barrels with tons of freebore, Glocks can't be taken seriously for an accuracy handgun.

Glock is the AK of the pistol world. 8-)

I am not alone! Bless ye, bless ye! You'd likely need to have work on the trigger and a new barrel, which is going to put your cost way up there. Can't go wrong with a CZ but for an overall target pistol I'd look at something like an STI or DW, a higher end production model 1911 is simply hard to beat in the accuracy department, love them or hate them.

Don't hate Glocks, had a G23 some years back and the damn things work but I never found them to be capable of anything but combat accuracy, which is what they were designed for. They belong in a duty holster or in a pancake or IWB, or on a nightstand unless you're willing to pay some cash.

Unless you're shooting targets at 100 yards with your 9mm I don't think you can be taken seriously either.

believe it or not gyrfalcon, there are 9mm pistols out there that feel better in the hand, are more comfortable, have better triggers, shoot nicer, and have better groups at more than 20 yards than glocks.
