Not to hijack this thread, but I'm still not sure I'd pay money for a threaded barrel. Aside from a flash suppressor or recoil compensator, what other options do I have?

I've been looking at the S&W M&P 15-22, which comes both ways, and that's why I'm asking. I don't see a huge advantage on a gun like that, unless a noise suppressor can be owned by a non-FFL (and I thought those were regulated the same way as machine guns).

So, what kind of fun can we have with a non-Bubba threaded barrel?

Threaded barrels are legal in MN -- suppressors (silencers) are NOT legal in MN.

From a Federal standpoint, suppressors are an item regulated by the National Firearm Act (NFA) and require an ATF Form be completed (w/background check) and a $200 tax stamp paid prior to the transfer to an individual. They are legal in plenty of places, just not MN.

Having a threaded barrel gives you the option for a suppressor at a later date, and an incentive to join the voices calling for MN to align with the Feds on the NFA!
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

On the topic of rifles, especially tactical ones, there's no reason not to get one. Threads on the barrel of a tactical style rifle are more for muzzle brakes, compensators and flash hiders. And since a lot of people want one of those three and a suppressor (in other states) manufacturers make suppressors that fit onto brakes, comps and flash hiders and vice versa.

On the original topic; Glock barrels are so cheap anyway, and MN is such a conservative state. I don't see civvie suppressor laws changing soon. It was hard for even the DNR to get them. To add to Pat's post, I think everyone should to pushing for more gun rights. Castle doctrine, suppressors and modern full auto are important for us as a community (obviously IMO, take it FWIW).

Save your money. Your Glock isn't going to blow up.

The pictures posted in that kaboom thread clearly show the barrel had been improperly hacked. You can see it clearly. I guess, take that for what its worth. The person who exploded their Glock was given multiple chances to correct the issue but kept testing his luck knowing there was an obvious problem.

It's your money. You may also want to look into installing an aftermarket reinforced gas tank for your car on the off chance that a jagged rock rolls down a hillside onto the road and punctures that cheap, factory tank your car came with at the exact same instant a careless smoker throws a cigarette butt out the window of his passing car igniting the leaking fuel and causing your car to explode and kill you.

Equal likelihood.

Think about how many Glocks are in circulation. Love them or hate them, they don't just explode. It'd be pretty hard to keep a company in business with a product like that.

What's your "piece" of mind worth?
