New Glock book out.

Postby jp8775 on Wed Feb 08, 2012 7:42 pm

There is a new Book out about Glock, or at least new to me but also fairly new out. I got it for a birthday present. This is a very interesting book. It dispelled many of the ill truths I had heard about Glock and its history. “Glock The rise of America’s gun”. I highly recommend it to any one like me who love that gun.

I went there and I sure as hell did not miss much about the book review, the thread was a Glock bash fest. I started my thread because I actually read the book and found it an interesting book. Seems not many else did sorry.

Your comments are not quite accurate. I *did* read the book, and said so in that thread. I don't own a Glock, and came away much less likely to do so than before.

I did not say you did not did I? I said most seemed to not, they just joined in and bashed Glocks which every one has a right to. I have never met a gun I did not like, just some more than others. I thought it was a book review not what it seemed to turn into. Little was said about the book it seemed to me and more about why they hate Glocks.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

Not just that. I'm not about to say that you're wrong, I hate Glocks. :D But that's not the only thing people were saying in the other thread. It seems a little cocky to refer to an Austrian pistol as "America's Gun". There was also some mention in the WSJ review of the Glock being the first plastic gun when it wasn't and some other stuff that I am nowhere near sober enough to recall. If you get rid of the misplaced pseudo-patriotic crap and quit trying to make it out to be more than it is I doubt the other thread would have turned out to be the flame-fest that is was.

And to be totally honest, I haven't read the book. I don't intend to for the above reasons.

I know you never will read the book and that’s why you will never know why they called it America’s gun. They did not call it an American gun, big difference. I do not hate any gun! I had a lot more to say, but when the hate word comes out I have learned to back off.

I'm not trying to bust your balls JP. I don't really hate Glocks, I was just trying to lighten the mood a little with sarcasm and a smiley. Sorry to have mislead you on that one.
I do however stand by my point that it is cocky. You are arguing semantics with the America's v. American difference. The author is trying to market the book by expoliting peoples sense of patriotism and I think that is a pretty cocky move. In the reviews I read Glocks were wrongly given credit as being first for a lot of things individually. They were first for putting a lot of innovations together in one package, not for the unique features.

What are they given credit for that they shouldn't be?

The "safe trigger" has a remarkable resemblance to the swartz safety 1911 purists hate. Glock didn't put it in the grip where you can almost forget about it though, they stuck it smack dab in the middle of the trigger.

Swartz was conjured up for Colt before WWII btw - cutting edge technology, like a typewriter at the dawn of personal computing.

It's funny, you glock guys don't get the hate and some of us just can't figure out where the love came from. ;)

Maybe it's just a matter of people's standards being different. After all, Shippy has some unworldly love for crap guns, and he's shameless about it too.
