Taurus TCP .380

Postby Thunder71 on Fri Mar 02, 2012 12:04 pm

Would like to hear from people who have this gun or who have shot it. I know the temptation to post a response of 'Friends don't let friends buy Taurus' is tempting, but save your keystrokes, please. I've had an LCP, didn't care for it and bought a Kahr which I 'thought' would replace the need/want for a smaller gun, however I do find myself missing that size gun on occasion. I also have a S&W 642, which oddly enough is actually larger than my PM9 and MK9 - so that didn't fit the bill either.

I do not want another LCP, and after considering the Kel-Tec and Taurus I've decided there's things about the Taurus that I like better, which is why I'm now asking for hands on experience.

Thanks

Got one and really like it. Fit and finish is not the greatest I've seen, but I have not had any issues with reliability. The sights are just ok, but good enough for what the gun is designed for. I find that I am surpirisingly accurate with the little guy. Recoil seems to me at least to be a little better than an LCP, which I know doesn't make a lot of sense since they are the same size and caliber. I am also leery of Taurus semis, but this one has been a winner, especially for the discount over the LCP. My .02

Thanks, shackleford - much appreciated. In comparison to the LCP, it could be that the grip is slightly longer that makes it feel better to shoot - just guessing as I have yet to pick one up. Was planning on making a trip to the store today and check one out in person but alas, meetings got in the way of my lunch hour once again.

I have hands on experience with them all. I would rank them as P3AT/LCP 1st depending upon the deal you can get. The Taurus TCP is way back in the pack with Jennings junk.

Apparently you like the TCP so just buy it. Do you really need other peoples endorsements before you buy a pistol?

Better yet... buy all three and report back. ;)

I have had mine for almost a year now, and have had zero issues with nearly 800 rounds through it. It fits my large hands fairly well for such a small pistol. I use a Blackhawk! size 3 pocket holster for carry.

Thanks for your thoughts as well, and no - I don't need endorsements, but I do appreciate input as I don't have the opportunity to fire every gun on the market before making as informed of a decision as I can. That's why I like discussion forums, you can discuss things... and since this is a gun forum, I'm discussing a gun.

Thanks,

I owned one last year. Shot it alot, and never had any issues with it. Sold it because I wasn't very accurate with it. The only 380 I own at the moment is a Bersa Thunder 380 CC. Great gun. Highly recommended...

Thanks Phatspeed, those are nice but start bordering on PM9 size if I am not mistaken.

Aren't these forums for getting advice among other things?

I find the TCP a lot easier to shoot than the Ruger, feels natural in my hand, and the fit and finish is a step above the Kel-Tec. Sure is ugly, though.

Hahaha, yeah - I kind of thought so too. Going to go handle one next week and see what happens.

Thanks!

I had one 2 years ago. Didn't have any luck with it. Would fail to fire and eject more than I would like. also the slide would lock back with one round to go almost every time! Now I'm not here to rip on the gun, but I wasn't happy with the one I got and wouldn't get another. I have a S&W bodyguard 380 now and really like it. No problems yet to date. I feel I can trust it not to malfunction. Hate the long trigger pull on it tho. Hope this helps

I’ve had one for about a year now and it started out real bad. It failed to feed and failed to eject often with many different ammo types.

I called Taurus, they sent a prepaid FedEx truck to my door to pick it up. A week and a half later I got it back with two new magazines and a VERY nice gunsmith job including a polished feed ramp and bolt face. The gun is now 100% reliable with anything I feed it, and shoots very accurate for a gun with a grip that I can’t even get two full fingers on.

I was frustrated that I had to send it back, but the customer service was outstanding.

Glad to hear you had success and am now happy with it. Have heard taurus has good costumer service. To bad the product has to hit the shelf in that condition though.
