Just a quick note to everyone that showed for the match. Thanks for coming out! Who would have thought the turnout would have been so high. 56 shooters I think.

Squad #1, thanks for working so hard resetting the stages for each shooter. A bunch of you assisted with set-up and tear down also, that is very much appreciated.

I would like a little input from the shooters. I had set up stages #1 and #3. On stage #1 I put the little 5" steel target at the back of the pepper poppers (about 17 yrds), what did you think? I knew it would be a challenging target, but for the most part everyone in Squad #1 hit it and the confidence boost it gave was amazing to see. On stage #3 the steel plates were my personal targets, did you like them? As far as that course of fire goes, I had hoped it was challenging for everyone but didn't want it to beat anyone down too much. Rest assured you won't find that much weak hand shooting at any other match in the country.

Stage #4, the steel rifle targets and the spinner were mine. I know the spinner can be a real brain tease, but how did you like the steel silhouettes?

I ask for response on those specific targets because I had purchased them from MFR Metals from Rogers MN. I think they have a great product at a very fair price. I would like to give them a little feedback from the shoot.

Thanks again for comiing out.

Stage 1, I didn't mind the small disk at all, but I was lucky enought to hit it on my first shot. What killed me on that stage was having too tight of choke in my shotgun, shooting too fast and missing a couple clays, losing count of my shots and running the gun dry, then bumbling my reload from bolt lock. Definetly something I need to work on.

Stage 3. The stands and steel plates worked great. Easy to reset and used as shotgun or hangun targets targets seem like they should last forever. Might look at getting some of the same made myself. Manipulating weapons left handed sure did throw me for a loop, but it was a fun stage.

Stage 4. I like the spinner now that I'm running a shotgun with chokes. Though it's really tough to get that bugger around if you just have cyl bore. The steel silhouettes worked great. Easy to count hits on and seemed durable as well. The one in the middle came of its stand a couple times, but that's a real easy fix.

The folks at MFR seemed very nice and were committed to building a quality product. Pretty sure I will be going to them when we get the steel for our range.

Overall it was a great match. I didn't do as well as I would have liked to, but that's the game. Make stupid mental errors, you pay the price in seconds (or minutes in my case). Looking forward to seeing everyone again at MG&F next month.

Chris,

The center steel on stage #4 was one I purchsed from R&R Racing years ago. It still works but I definately think the MFR targets are a step up.

When things were going well for you, you shot lights out. Pushing the envelope caused some crash and burn scenarios. Live and learn I guess. Good job.

Thanks for the input.

You got that one right, it took 2 fire extinguishers and a 12 pack to put out the flames  , but in the end it will help me practice my weak points (it's a long, loooong list)
Congrats on the match win Payne. Good thing they don't give trophys for these things, you'd have to put an addition on the house.

Stage 1. I think you could have put the little disk target even farther back...making people switch gears from hosing big targets to accuracy is always great.

Stage 2. I miss running through the tunnel, but it made the stage setup go faster. I would even suggest running only steel on the second bay, since that one always slows people down...or at least keep the pasting to a minimum. Since everyone has to stand so far back to allow for the initial rifle shots, it's always slow to get people down there pasting, especially with gloves on.

Also, I wrapped all the small disks with chains around the supports...but maybe that is my punishment for shooting HM. I don't know if hanging a length of chain down would help that out or not.

Stage 3. Awesome stage. The shotgun targets worked great. However, sometimes the stands would tip over or the backs would sink in, and this would cause repositioning, which would slightly change the stage from shooter to shooter. I don't know if having a flat metal tab on the bottom of the legs would help distribute the pressure more, or it could have a hole to stake at least the front leg in with.

Stage 4. Spinner was awesome. I think that the penalty for not spinning it needed to be stiffer however, some people just took one shot and moved on. We were the first squad on that stage and had some issues calibrating the steel poppers, I don't think the people who set them up calibrated them...but we got them working. :)

Awesome shoot, and extremely fun!

Nah, I just took video of this one because I thought it was a pretty cool setup.

We had some challenge. The stands Brian had made were perfect when we cant stake stuff down. The cold adds to the challenges. The mini rifle plates were not what I expected either. But it was what we had when I built the stage.\

Those pepper poppers on stage 4 were brand new replacements for the ones SCAPSA lost in the fire. Sorry I should have calibrated them and actually shot them.

The spinner penalty will increase. I wanted to give eveyone a easy opprotunity this early in the season.

We are working on aquiring some new steel targets at this time. Bugs are getting worked out and we have a few neet things in mind for the future.

Look for comming updates for the April 7 match at Minnetonka.

Thanks everyone for comming. With those numbers were are going to be going full speed ahead.
