Found .223 brass, big WTF!

Postby photogpat on Thu Mar 15, 2012 6:09 am

So, here's one from my collection on a Thursday morning. I found this at the range this past summer after watching it get made, the hard way.

See if you can tell whats been done? I know already, I just wanna see how good your powers of deduction are - and I wanna get my post count over 1000.

.223 fired in a .300 Blackout/Whisper?

There is a right way to fire form a case, and a wrong way. This looks like the wrong way...

Did these come from the seconds room at FC?

Alright, the fun has gone on long enough.

1) Not from a .300 Blackout/Whisper, look at the neck.
2) Not a bad case/round from any 2nd's room.

Here's a hint (next to a 7.62x39)

P.S. Happy 1000th post!

What's the problem? Everyone knows that an AK will eat anything you can fit in the chamber and it's not like it will affect accuracy! :P

i hate to admit it, but i accidentally put a 9mm in the middle of a 40 mag once upon a time.... it still cycled the gun, but had a really wierd sound to it. i thought something might be amiss... and when i looked at the target and the hole was a rectangle

H&H wins -- AK's will "fire" anything. This round failed to cyle - other than blowing chunks of brass and hot gases over into the guy shooting next to him.

He'd been shooting his AR and had a couple of .223 rounds left on the table when he switched to his AK and started loading mags. He inserted 3 .223's into a 30rd mag, and figured out after this one exactly what he'd done.

I keep the brass as an example of making sure you're using the proper round for your gun....since accidents happen and all...

lol a buddy grabbed a rental at robbinsdale once, the H&K P30 .40. He thought he grabbed the 9mm. he handed it to me, mag loaded, and thinking nothing of it, I fired. wouldn't cycle the slide and it cracked the case open just like that .223 come to think of it. OOPS.

BTDT - I've got a Beretta combo with both 9mm and .40 slides - also have a few el cheapo mags that aren't labeled by caliber and grabbed one without looking close enough... funny sound and feel, but it fired! funky hole in the target not even close to where I was aiming! only took a split second before I realized what was up! :)

I seem to always examine the mags more since then! ;) ;)

I had a friend put a couple of magazines of 380 through a highpoint 9mm once. Didn't catch him until he was loading the third mag.
It might have been why the thing exploded the next time my father shot it. :bolt:

Or not.

The pictures don't show it the greatest, but you can see where the brass case actually engaged the rifling in the barrel.

How this didn't result in more damage to the rifle/bystander/shooter is pure luck.

Funny. Some one was just trying to tell me the other day that there is an AK that can fire 7.62 and 5.56. I told them it was impossible with out a barrel change. I guess I was wrong.
