Hate to be "that guy" but...

You know - the guy who just shows up to sell something. I know that is frowned on in a lot of forums. Anyway, I'm settling my Dad's estate and he had some handguns. My siblings and I are hunters and have rifles and shotguns, but we aren't handgunners, so I would like to sell them. I'll be lurking for a while to get a sense of values. Any recommendations of gun shops that give fair value on used guns would be welcome. Meanwhile, I'll be boning up on the smart way to handle transactions with individuals.

For some of us who know each other better, just cash and swap is fine. Some members have forms that each person fills out with DL and a show of a permit to purchase or carry.

I would suggest using a bill of sale, if you are at all worried.

Sorry about your dad. Gunstop in Minnetonka gives fair offers on trades IMHO.

These links might help to find a starting point for prices.

I think seeing a P2C or PTP with a bill of sale a good idea for both parties.

Sorry for your loss and welcome to the forums. Most folks here are pretty honest and fair, but there are some tire kickers. It would be OK to ask prices in the general forum I would guess; be sure to post pictures and descriptions. I would hope that no one would take advantage of your current situation and seriously low ball you. Again , sorry for your loss and I hope you get a fair price for the items you wish to sell.
One thing to consider is that this is an election year and prices are going up; especially for ammo of certain calibers and high capacity magazines; just sayin......

Another option would be to contact Thunderjohn; he is an FFL and an honest guy to boot; I bet he would be willing to help you out.

Best Regards,
Charlie

Sorry about your loss. If you advertise here, you will probably get more than trading them in. Hopefully you can keep some sentimental pieces for heirlooms. If you check gunbroker.com, you can get an idea what something has sold for, look at sold pieces that have already sold or guns that have actual bids on them to get an idea for prices. If you transfer to another Minnesota resident that is legal to purchase (no felonies or has PTP or PTC), one can avoid FFL transfer fees (fees generally range anywhere from $10-$50).

Honestly, many folks do come on here just to sell stuff. You did the right thing by introducing yourself first. Things seem to sell here fairly quickly and if you ask before you list it for what a fair value is you will get quite a bit of fair advice. You will have to sort through it of course and figure out what you want for it but once you do post it here and I think you will find a good base of buyers.

Sorry for your loss and good luck in your sales.
