Bad day at the range

Postby Stoley_XD on Tue Apr 17, 2012 8:30 pm

So couple of knuckleheads were walking around behind the firing line sweeping everyone with their guns today at Burnsville pistol range, that's always fun when your shooting and then you realize someone's gun pointing everywhere but downrange.

Firearms are fun toys but they are toys that can kill you so the least you could do is take the time to read the rules and understand them. Thankfully the lady behind the counter saw it happen and gave them an ear full, one even saw her flipping out through the window and said "Uh-oh what did I do wrong" as he is holding a gun sideways in his hand.

Sorry I had to rant.

That is one of the reasons I like BPR. Sue is a really nice lady. She also is not afraid to tell someone when they are being a dumb ass.

During one session there, I didn't realize my target was too high. She came in and gave me an earful, but at the same time was very polite about it and explained the situation so I understood what I was doing wrong. She could have been an ass about it but she wasn't. I appreciate her attitude.

I was a BPR when a couple of young fellows clipped their small paper target right to the carrier w/o any cardboard. I tried to tell them, but Sue beat me to it.

Some Yahoos just don't get it. At Bills I have been a lot of jackwagons rent the HAND CANNONS ... BOOM, BOOM, ( Laughing) BOOM, BOOM ( more laughing).... ususally I just back away ( North) to watch and wait until they fire off $40 and then leave. Bill's does a decent job policing these Yahoos ....It seems certain people think they know it all or refuse to take the range rules seriously.

You see it everyday at ranges, gun shops and shows. People blindly waving guns around.... breach open or closed no matter.....

It has GOT to be a tough job running a pistol range. There are just so many careless people. Combine that with deadly consequences for mistakes. I don't think I could take it. I'd end up with a very sour attitude towards the general public.

I thought you were talking about MGT there for a second.

Yeah, well the thought crossed my mind. I've been treated rudely there more than once but their discourtesy is surely trumped by the idiocy I've seen. It would drive me nuts too.

I have 65 shooters in my spring pistol league this year.
I have had no problems.
Safety rules are explained to them as they walk in, and there is no tolerance for unsafe actions.
I have 9 stations and most of the time they all are full.
All shooters know that I am watching at all times.

We have a great time with lots of joking around and shenanigans, but all shooters are aware that safety comes first.

I'm not knocking any other ranges, but from the get go many years ago, the no tolerance rules were in force.

I have had shooters in the past participate in my leagues who have migrated from the city ranges just because of the things that have been posted here.

Sue went after me once for shooting too fast until I pointed to the target and asked if she wanted to count the holes...

If there was more than one hole to count, you needed to slow down.

I was at BPR today....and you guys are right, they run a tight ship. Sue and Roger are on it.

I was in the bay behind the counter, no craziness there, but I was the first one in the door at 10 and left at Noon. If that went on, I didn't see it because I was either A) Shooting or B) it was in the other range or C) After I left. No matter what, I will keep an eye out. If someone sweeps me, they will get an ear full.

I survived Cancer with a 35% chance of making it, no dumb*ss sweeping is going to take me out.

Personally, gun training should be mandatory.
