M&P Shield

Held one today, I liked the trigger but it didn't feel that great - it 'felt' thin, I know it should - but my Kahr's don't feel like that and it was larger than I expected. At least I held it, verified I'm still on track for an XDS.

I looked at one at the Owatonna Cabela's today. Price was full MSRP of $449.

It looks thin. Like a Kahr P9 to me. Feels thin in the hand and points well. I'm a 1911 guy. The distance to the trigger is short. Easy to get plenty of finger on it. The grip is a little longer than other small 9 mm's but it does hold 7 + 1 rounds with the short magazine rather than 6 + 1 that other comparable 9's hold.

The trigger felt 6 to 7 pounds or so but good for plastic trigger. For me, that is a good weight for a striker fired semi-auto. I could still feel the spongy feel due to plastic parts during the trigger pull. Just like Glocks, XD's, H&K's feel to me. Kahr triggers do not have this feeling.

There was no little step felt when the trigger mechanism was disengaging the firing pin block like on my two other M&P's. (This can be eliminated by rounding the sharp edge on the other M&P's.) The reset of trigger was definitely more pronounced than on other M&P's. Fairly long reset.

The safety is useless. It is so small that it cannot be pushed to off without a deliberate effort. Carry with it off. The trigger is then just like the other M&P's but a pound or so heavier.

I would definetly consider it.

How does it disassemble? Do you still have to send a probe down into the ejection port?

Same as the M&P. you cna either press the lever down inside or check the barrel and magwell 3x, point in a safe direction, pull trigger, and hope you don't need the spackle and paint.

Oh? I tried disassembling a full size M&P at Cabella's and no one there knew how to do it. I could have sworn I dry fired it, but I could have been wrong. Good to know.

The Shield is within 100's of an inch of the Kahr P9/CW9.
You wouldn't be able to tell which one is thinner if I didn't tell you.
I agree, the safety is like the Bodyguard, probably not going to be used by many.

What the lever inside does, essentially, is tip the sear and allow the striker to slide past. In essence, it uncocks the pistol.

The slide is a little longer than on a KEl-Tec PF-9 but is the same width. The Shield isn't as tapered across the top however so it doesn't fit the PF-9 holsters.

The Becida Bar is re-opening, from what I understand.

I may be available to test shoot that, although I DID buy myself a new XDm..
