? for glock owners

Newbie here, from Long Prairie.
I have been told that you shouldn't shoot lead in a glock without getting an after-market barrel.
Because the original barrel can explode. Does anyone know why ? Is it because of lead build-up,
or what ?

I don't shoot the glock's very often but I have shoot hard cast bullets in them, G20 & G21.
I only shoot 50 rds. threw them before cleaning them, I look at the bore before I clean it &
there is very little build-up, but I clean it anyway & put it away for another few months.
I am a 1911 person so I don't use the glocks much. Do you think this could be a problem ?

Buy and after market barrel. Or keep doing what you are doing. You are not supposed to shoot reloads in most guns, but a lot of people do it. Its your ****. If you clean them and you think it is good run with it, but if you blow yourself, and the whole range up dont blame anyone but yourself.

It has to do with the polygonal rifling. It causes greater lead bulidup in the barrel.

I know nothing about the question you pose but I did grow up in Long Prairie. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Pushing lead fast or relatively fast through a GLOCK barrel is the problem.

If you wish to shoot lead (at your own risk)

1. Make sure it is hard lead, Missouri Bullet Company makes some very hard bullets good for this. A hard cast moly coated lead works too
2. Low FPS, I was fine in the 700-800 FPS with a 40 bullet, but crossing the line into 900+ was trouble. I also had luck in the 850-900 for a 9mm bullet.
3. Check the barrel often


Or as others have said get an after marker barrel. Lone Wolf or KKM are two that come to mind.

lead build up but wasn't positive. But now I am sure, so I will keep
checking the bore. I would buy a replacement barrel for them but like I
said I don't shoot the Glocks very often maybe 300 rds. a year. I shoot
50rds & that's good for 2 or 3 months, it makes me appreciate the 1911
that much more. I shoot my Springfield XD's even less.
I'm not happy unless I'm blasting away with the good ole 1911's.

Justaguy: I haven't shot a factory rd. of ammo in 41 yrs. other than
rimfire, & I would reload them if I could. You might be surprised
what one can do for accuracy by reloading. I shoot 40k - 50k rounds
of ammo a year, mostly 45acp. now. I slowed down some the last few
years. I used to do allot of trap shooting, & rifle bullseye shooting.

Wow I'm surprised any one new were Long Prairie is, & here there's at least
2 that do.

Yeah, its great to hear how everything in reloading will result in blowing your **** head off for sure, and a good chance you will kill everyone within 500 yards.

PLEASE dont tell me you use a digital scale?
