Coyote Problem

Don't know if this is the right forum, but I may need to relieve the neighborhood of a coyote. One is getting pretty brave and approached the nieghbor lady when she was out with her dog in the backyard. Does anyone know; if the thing comes in my yard and threatens my family or my pets, can I take care of it?

In Bloomington no, you need to call Animal Control, and IF you can convince them that it is indeed a Coyote, they will then set up a meeting to discuss the problem and a plan to identify the creature and how to live trap it for relocation....................somewhat sarcastic response, but there is a thread of truth in it......in the end you will be forced to work with the Bloomington PS/AC..........................good luck........




PS: Learn the 3S 's, understand that their prime activity is 2100-0500hrs, and proceed accordingly..............

My neighbor called them fools the other day and they id it as a coyote and told her there was notheing they could do about it and if if came near her she should try to "kick at it" to scare it away. It did not seem to be freightened of the 100+ pound dog she had with her at the time, it walked within 20 feet of them and didn't leave when she started screaming at it. Animal Control here is a joke to say the least.

Yours does not seem to be afraid of human, that bothers me and I would take the necessary actions to eliminate this danger, but that's me.

Get it on video. Call a television news agency and let them know you have video of coyotes moving in to the area and that the local animal cops were notified and failed to respond. That hits the airwaves and a live trap should show up shortly.

Nanny Rips Baby Girl From Jaws of Coyote in California Sandbox

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — A nanny pulled a 2-year-old girl from the jaws of a coyote when the animal attacked the toddler and tried to carry her away in its mouth, officials said.

The girl was playing Friday in a sandbox at Alterra Park in Chino Hills in San Bernardino County. Around 10:30 a.m., the caretaker heard screaming and saw a coyote trying to carry the child off in its mouth, officials said.

The babysitter grabbed the child and pulled her from the coyote's grasp, the sheriff's department said in a statement.

The coyote then ran off into nearby brush.

The child suffered wounds to her buttocks and was taken to Chino Valley Medical Center and was later released, director of nursing Anne Marie Robertson said. She was later transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center to receive the rabies vaccine.

San Bernardino County Animal Control and the State Department of Fish and Game were searching for the animal, Wiltshire said.

Miller said there was another attack in the area in October when a coyote bit a 3-year-old girl playing in a cul-de-sac. The girl needed treatment for puncture wounds to the head and thigh, Miller said.

I had EFFIN woodchucks last summer, and in the middle of the city! One dug under my garage pad and my car broke through the concrete, dang near busted an axle. Called Mpls Animal Control. Guess what? They don't deal with wild animals, only stray domestic ones!

Mean little bastards, woodchucks, very territorial. Much like me, though I usually smell better. I had no desire to get all empathic, though, and besides, I was here first. Mr. Woodchuck had to die.

I tried a BB gun, but just annoyed it. Went to a .22 with the Colibri silent ammo. Same effect. Full power .22 worked. I fired from inside the house, intending to use the building to muffle the sound. No police response, so it must have worked. One shot, one kill. Heck of a lot of blood, for a 10 lb. critter, though, and I was just hosing it off when the wife came home, and she flipped, seeing all that red. Oh well, that's married life.

I used to work with some innocent city girls that were complaining about stray dogs chewing on their dogs in the back yard. The stray ran away before the cops arrived. I commented that we had that problem once when I was a kid. She asked what happened and I stated that the dog died of lead poisoning. Honest to God, she looked at me and asked, “You fed it paint?” After a slight pause I stated no, I shot the stray. No surprise, but she totally lost it and asked why did you do that??? I asked her what she thought the cops were going to do if they caught the stray? Her comment back was “But that is their job..."

A green prime pelt was trading for 20 to 30 dollars earlier this winter, at least it will pay for you bullets and time.
