Maybe I'm just lucky, but I haven't had a bad experience with the NRA (knock on wood).

It's not a factor of time, but of your responsiveness. Once they identify a revenue stream they will exploit it. Send ILA money confidentially and you'll never get spammed. Reply to one special offer and you'll never see the end of it.
In regards to clubs requiring NRA memberships I am all for it. Many clubs receive NRA grants for improvements. I have no problem with NRA using these grants to promote membership.

Serious suggestion: put together a presentation on the SAF and why we should allow this. Get on the agenda foe a board meeting and Take it to the board. Get on the Agenda for a Member meeting and Take it to a members' meeting. Wait for the annual meeting. Get on the agenda, make the pitch.

It failed at the annual meeting last year but that may be because I burnt out and dropped the ball on the issue.

I'll try to work up the energy to do this, but the tank's pretty low right now for too much activism. If/when work smooths out (or I become unemployed and have more time) I'd like to work on it to give members a choice.

What's more irritating is when you're nice enough to either: a)Pay for the first one - and/or - b)actually intrigued by the series and decide you'd like to subscribe... Only to find the next ones are like $30... But then you've got two medallions and well, you've gotta get 'em all, right?

I got that DVD a couple of months ago, with the coin. They asked to toss the DVD box and stick the DVD in an envelope. It went straight back, with the coin.
I get phone calls all the time, and whatever the issue is, it's always "outrageous". I too have 2nd thoughts about my donations being used for sending people junk.

I listen to MPR and often though of donating, but I know I'd get hammered to contribute endlessly to their "challenge grants" and so on. I would support them if I knew they'd simply take the $ graciously and leave me alone after that.
