This might be weird but... (holster ??)

Postby Irish.40 on Thu May 10, 2012 3:24 pm

I am looking for a IWB holster for my Glock 23. I like the idea of the crossbreed supertuck, desantis intruder. But I dont like shelling out $70 to try one on. Are there any stores that let you try them on? Or, and here comes the weird part, would anyone be willing to let me try theirs on? My concern is the fit. I weigh 210 lbs. But am not chubby. My wife is putting up a stink about OC. And this is my way of compromising...some of the time. I figure it cant hurt to ask.

I've really come to like the Remora line of holsters. They look silly, but work great. I wear one daily, and haven't had any issues with it.

Worth a shot at $25

I hate to say this but... Get one from a big box retailer and if you don't like it after a day or two, return it.

I have a Galco Supertuck for a 1911 I am happy to let you try out, I also have a Threat Solutions UCR for Glocks that is awesome and you are welcome to borrow.

Get the Galco King-Tuk. I've had a crossbreed, the King-Tuk is better IMO and can be picked up at Cabela's for about $50. Don't overpay for a crossbreed.

I have a king-tuk you can try out anytime, you can even wear it for a few days if you want, I rarely carry my Glock 23 concealed.

Conceal is the only way to go, why draw attention to yourself or alert an anti?

I like my crossbreed for my Cougar .40 which is about the same size as your Glock. But as you can see from the posts here there can be a lot of different ways to go. I was new to firearms and did a lot of research because I had heard about the "drawer of unused holsters". I read a lot of good things about crossbreed so I went with it sight unseen and have not been disappointed. I also bought a belt from them and am happy with it also. A good belt is probably more important than the holster as it is what is going to support whatever holster you get. Here is their return policy from their site if you are concerned about the initial outlay.

What is your refund and warranty policy?
Answer:

Once you receive your holster you have two weeks to try it out, if it doesn't work for you, simply give us a ring and we will buy it back, less shipping and handling. Even after your two-week-try-it-free period is over, the holster still carries a lifetime warranty and we will repair or replace it as long as you own it if it fails you in any way under normal use.

The funnny thing is that you are going to get as many opinions here as there are holsters to choose from.

I would set some criteria to narrow down your choices, (i.e. Leather vs. kydex, clips vs loops, etc. etc. etc.) then start looking from there. Then find some people with that style that are willing to let you wear their holster for a bit or go to some stores and try them on to see if you immediately hate it. The only way to know for sure if you will like it or not is to wear it for a few weeks.

IIRC, you are fairly new to the "carrying a gun" scene, and like most of us will more than likely end up with a closet full of holsters before you settle on the one you really like.

Holsters are easily as individually dependent for people as the guns they put in them.

Thanks guys. I can always depend on the members here to give me so many answers, I am usually more confused than before I asked. But it is way more fun this way.

I bought a kydex holster from NTAC for my glock 26. NTAC is like Raven Concealment only way cheaper and with a much shorter lead time (<30 days, shipped if I recall). It is pretty comfortable with a good stiff belt.

Looking back, I wish I would have spent the extra money (and time) on a Raven. The retention is a little too tight on the NATC. Plus, Chris Costa doesn't wear a NTAC ;)

If you pick up a Galco King Tuk/Crossbreed, and also have your Serpa...you;'ll have two great carry options while also avoiding the "box of holsters". The box of holsters tends to be a result of trying to get away with cheap holsters, at least for me it was.

Buy some loose fitting shirts and cover up. You won't need to go IWB.

Hawaiian shirts are great for breaking up the outline of a pistol.

Last night I remembered I had a $47 credit on amazon.com. So I ordered a Kingtuk and only paid $10! So even if I need to modify it or can't stand it I won't feel like I'm wasting cash. And amazon will allow returns! Thanks for the input.
