Name that pistol!

My dad emailed me these pictures today. He found this while walking on his property in central minnesota. The trigger guard, barrel and cylinder are all flattened by a bulldozer I'm sure when he had his driveway put in years ago. Can you tell what it is by the pictures? It's not worth anything I'm sure, but it'd make for a neat story. He's going to wait for me to get up there this weekend to visit before cleaning the dirt/mud off from it. I wonder if it has a serial number or not. Take a guess as to what you think it is. It's smashed to heck of course.

Not a S&W model 10, they have a leaf mainspring this one has/had a coil spring. Maybe a copy of one?

Nuh-uh. It's an M16. You can tell the difference because of where the clip goes. The clip goes in the front on an AK47 and less in front on an M16. I know, I'm an expert.
