In the 60's when I was in 8th grade. There was a rifle club in school.

4 years and some.. started with .22's, then 9's, then .45's, now making my way around to revolvers... the gun safe just never seems to be big enough.

Shooting for how long??

Postby JoeH on Sun May 20, 2012 5:44 pm

I bought myself a shotgun when I turned 18 and a pistol when I turned 21. I'm 40 now. I didn't really get into handguns until about 7 years ago and pistol competitions about 5.

I started shooting an old pump Remington 22. rifle before I turned 6 that my mother had around the house from her younger years, and had so much fun with it that my dad bought a Colt Woodsman .22 pistol sometime after I turned 6. Still got the pistol, but the rifle's breechblock gave up the ghost sometime before I was a teenager. By the time you read this, I'll be 63, so the number is a few months shy of 58 years.

Started shooting when I was 4 or 5 and dad thought it would be "funny" to let me take a shot a clay pigeon with his 12 gauge, needless to say if hes wasn't standing right behind me I would have ended up on my butt. Used a shot gun or a .22 until the end of my junior year of high school when I traded the .22 for a m16 upon enlisting in the national guard. Haven't done much with a rifle since I got out. Got into shooting handguns just in the past couple of years.

Dad taught us to shoot .22 when I was probably 5 or 6 or 7 (or 8 or 9... somewhere in there about 40 years ago!) didn't shoot much for handguns other than a pellet pistol until about 12 years ago. started buying pistols after I got a decent enough job to afford it, and started shooting with some guys from work - we'd go to BPR for gunpowder lunch once in a while.

Shooting for how long??

A little less than three years. Like some, I never had a gun upbringing either (Mom was scared of guns).

Had a Red Ryder when I was in 2nd grade, fired a .410 in 3rd grade...then a drought until FAS....22's and bird hunting in JH & HS...then an 8 yr drought. Bought my first pistol in 2006, my first evil black rifle 2 years ago, and my first Mosin last year.

Much like many others on here, I've been making up for lost time. Who knew there were so many ways to give Sarah Brady sleepless nights!

I started some time around 5 (1987), stopped around 15 because my dad stopped. Restarted on my own last year. My dad now thinks I am trying to make up for all the lost years.

I can remember shooting my dad's .22 at about 6 years old, so 42 years ago.

The first time I discharged a firearm (an M16) was when I was conscripted into the army of a certain Pacific Rim banana republic back in 1986 for 30 months of mandatory 'national service.'

I bought my first firearm in the US back in 2000. It was a 9mm CZ 75B, which I still own and shoot to this day.

when i was 9 i got my first shotgun, a NEF 410 break action single shot. it was garbage (2 feet left at 20 yards with COMPETENT shooters) so we traded it for a Rem 870 Youth 20 ga. first time shoting handgun at 10 (which now own, Taurus 669-6: 6" 357mag with a ported muzzle, thanks Dad!). played with Grandpa's SIG P226 9mm, Dad's Taurus 357 and Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag (old style, mfg in '72), then a Marlin 30-30, Rem 7400 30-06, the other Grandpa's M1 Garand and O/U 12ga of unknown origin (i just don't remember).
picked up an M16 and M9 in '00 when i joined the Corps. took a 4 year hiatus after getting out of the Corps in '04, started shooting again in '08. hook, line and sinker, i'm screwed. if i didn't have these financial obligations that most call "children" i'd have many MANY more firearms (and a couple extra motorcycles too)

that comes to 21 years minus the 4 year hiatus: 17 years. on a good day i'll be able to print a group under half an inch with my .45 at 25 yards. single shot groupings, but whatever ya gotta do to get good measurements, right?!!
