Can't say for sure. A desk Sergeant? Take that guess with a grain of salt. At this point in time I'd say wait the few hours for them to open in the morning.

Why don’t make a phone call to your local police dept’s administrative office and ask when they accept PTP applications. My local PD only accepts them Monday-Friday, 8-4:30 according to their website. My best guess is that a dispatcher won't be able to help you after regular business hours.

Is there a spelling test for that security job?

The reason the sate doesn't allow permit apps to be done online is because you must be ID'ed as a part of the permit process. No way to check your id online. Same reason the PD wants you to bring the app in during normal business hours so they can check your ID and make sure that gets signed off on.

I gotta says its a scary thought all of you rent a cops running around with guns you have little to no training with. Unfortunately we dont have a proficiency or iq test to buy or own guns here in MN. Best of luck and try not to shoot any innocent bystanders should you actually have to use your gun at work.

I thought you have to have a PTC to be an armed security guard...

I think I've heard this argument before -- oh wait, it goes something like this:

I gotta says its a scary thought all of you people running around with guns you have little to no training with. Unfortunately we dont have a proficiency or iq test to buy or own guns here in MN. Best of luck and try not to shoot any innocent bystanders should you actually have to use your gun out there.

You do realize that getting a PTP does not allow you to carry a firearm, correct? And that you will need to get a PTC (permit to carry) in order to carry a firearm? There is also no such thing as a 'one time purchase' that allows you to buy a pistol without a permit. It seems to me, no offense intended, that you really don't know much about firearms, the associated laws, or the process for getting answers.

I highly suggest that you attend a basic pistol class, followed by a permit to carry class. The latter being required in order to legally carry a pistol in MN. I'd also suggest taking several advanced/tactical handgun classes once you get your permit so that you can learn how to safely and effectively utilize your weapon in the unfortunate event that you need to use it. This is especially true for armed professionals who through their employment may be at higher risk of having to use their weapon than the general public. Having a permit to carry simply means you are minimally qualified to carry your pistol on your person. It does not mean that you have the training or skill necessary to use it.

Carrying a firearm is not only a right, it's also a responsibility that cannot be taken lightly. It sounds like your employer may be pushing you into carrying a firearm before you have had the chance to look into the processes or training necessary, which is very unfortunate. Slow down a little bit, waiting a week is absolutely nothing. Look for upcoming classes in your area, and go about the process of learning how to carry and use your firearm in a careful and thoughtful manner. This is not something that you want to be rushed through, this is something that you want to take your time with and absorb all the information you can.

Be forewarned - my P2P took over 2 months to get from St. Paul... They do a check with the cities &/or counties you've lived in over the past 10 years and I had lived in 4 different states, 5 counties (total), and 6 different cities over that period, none of which where in MN. I tried citing the law to the people I spoke with on the phone, but was told my options were to (a) wait for them to get responses to all the calls they'd put out, or (b) they could deny it...

Of course, I applied for my P2C a couple weeks after submitting my P2P app and had it in hand 12 days later, making it a moot point...

Most don't seem to have any problems, especially if you've been in MN for the last 10 years. Hopefully yours will go smoothly.

Question. Which company are you working for so I can avoid all their clients? I hope it isn't American Security or ADS Protective Agency, because I know some of the guys who run both companies. Might have to let them know to tighten up some of their standards.

Personal attacks and name calling have no place on this forum, and frankly, I think you have overstayed your welcome.
