.223 plinking load.

Whats your favorite plinking load, and how cheap can you make a box of 20?

I shot a new load last friday night thanks to jbotto, and it shot right with the pmc factory at 200 yards. Did not try it at paper at all, but it was easy to ring his 6 inch plate at 200 with it.

It was as follows, cci small rifle primer, 26.0 WW 748, winchester 55 fmj, seated to 2.250, with some federal range brass thanks to Mr Otto as well.

I calculate $4.25 for a box of 20. Or 10.50 into a box of 50.

Lets hear some pet loads for lead slinging.

I use the same load but with 26.4gr of Ramshot TAC. I find it to be much cleaner than the Win 748.

I have a 55gr Midsouth FMJ sitting on top of a starting load of H335, seated to the cannelure and primed with a CCI400. "Plinking" is fireforming brass for myself. Gunther, the brother's .243 is now sighted in so he can now maybe compete with us, if we slack off and shoot poorly for some reason.... hahaha.

For cheap blasting ammo the most expensive part is the bullet. The best options I have found are

1. Hornady 55gr soft point bulk 6000/457.15 = $0.076 each

2. Midsouth Shooters Supply 55gr soft point 2000/157.05 = $0.078 each
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/i ... 2455SP2000

3. Midsouth Shooters Supply 55gr soft point 500/40.12 = $0.080 each
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/i ... 22455SP500

4. Midsouth Shooters Supply 55gr hollow point point 500/46.59 = $0.093 each

5. Hornady 55gr soft point bulk 250/23.26 = $0.093 each

Then Primers - I would look for a deal on something like Wolf, Tula or magtech. CCI, Federal, Winchester are great but if it is just screwing around ammo and not something you are shooting a match with why do you need top shelf components.

Powder - Buy in bulk 8lb containers, I would go with something like Accurate arms 2230, Hodgdon H335, Hodgdon Varget

I have a source to buy 55gr FMJ for about the same price. If your not shooting steel you can usually find 62gr pull downs from around the same price as well.
