Another story. Feel free to share

Postby mzdadoc on Sun Jul 08, 2012 12:53 pm

I was at a 50th wedding anniversary with a girlfriend of mine and I was wrangling her three boys. (3,5,7) I wanted her to be able to enjoy her family without having to give chase every 3sec. So I was tying Jacks shoe the middle child when Cam the youngest jumps on my back. I hold is arms and stand up and he puts his right foot on my Nano in my Beretta IWB holster. I figured no big it will give him a steady foot hold..... Wrong!!!! LOL. Out flips my gun first then the holster. It's amazing how fast a loud family gathering quiets to a hush when a gun hits the floor. I put him down and scooped them up and headed to the bathroom to reinstall. Needless to say I wasn't looked at the same anymore. Lol Not bad just not the same!

Sounds like you need a better holster that stays in place.

Just another reason I were a retention holster and one that my belt threads thru. Now I suppose I may loose my holster some day but my pants are going with it. Look at a Bianchi Carry Lok.

Here's a story that I'll have to learn how to deal with more in the future as well...

This past weekend as you know was a holiday, and with this specific holiday, comes BBQ parties, and picnics. I think I went to 4 or 5 during the past week or so, as I'm sure alot of you did as well.
I carry a G17 in an IWB holster at the 3 o'clock position and carried during all of these parties. Not because I was worried at all, but just because I can, and to also help break in my new Heimdhal's Holster that I recently got.

Not a big deal... as I carry often. My wife on the other hand, has a great dislike of guns. She doesn't like that I own them, she doesn't like that I carry them, hell... she doesn't like that I even talk about them. She certainly doesn't like that I sell them as an FFL! (still not sure how I snuck that by her...)
So when I carry, I just don't tell her. She finds out sometimes and doesn't like it, but she never brings it up in front of people for fear of humiliation that her husband God forbid... CARRIES A GUN!

Whatever...

So we were at a party today and my inlaw wanted me to meet a friend who she said had a tattoo.....

Here comes the problem...

Those that know me here a little better, might know that I have a habit of proudly showing my tattoo which happens to be located on my big, fat, white, buttocks, and I've never turned down the opportunity to moon someone, so of course... I had to show it. In fact... that's why I opted to get the gun belt made by Jones Tactical with the quick release buckle. But if some tubby, guy drops his pants in public to show a tattoo, you know everybody will turn, look and laugh.... which they did, and there, at the 3 o'clock position... was my G17 hanging down with my pants, I tried to drop them quick enough so it wouldn't be noticable.

About half the people may have noticed the gun, but the only response I got was weird looks for the rest of the day. Luckily... my wife was on the other side of the party so she didn't see the mooning at all. I'm going to have to practice turning to the side or something from now on... still not sure what to do about it.

Nice way to say it-" Don't drop your trousers in public"

Other way- "Don't show your a$$"

Concealed means concealed. It also means being smart enough to not needlessly offend or upset friends and family who might not be as gun happy as the rest of us. "Surprise! He has (or just dropped) a gun" is not a smart way to introduce anybody to the sport or movement.

Not to be blatantly antagonistic, but this story doesn't sound like an amusing anecdote to me...it sounds like irresponsible gun ownership and carry.

Well Scratch at least you took the story as intended and I enjoyed yours!!!! As for the rest of you recheck the law. MN is a "Carry State" not "Conceal & Carry" Opinions are like b holes so everyone has one and you are welcome to yours. I promise when I get more responsible as a gun owner and permit carrier at age 45 I hope I can be as perfect as you that never has any unfortunate accidents happen. Later in the night the only question asked of my girlfriend was am I in law enforcement to which she replied no but he has his permit.
Flame away if you must I'm flame retarded!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

You can quote it right, just seems you can't execute it.

Carry means keeping it in the holster and on you. I don't there is anything amusing at all about your story and with kids around honestly I find it a little unnerving.

I would not brag about dropping a loaded handgun in public, nor would I try to defend the negligent act.

Just to put in in perspective, if you drop a loaded gun at a competitive pistol event your done, they DQ you right on the spot and thats with a bunch of gun friendly folks.

Get a decent holster and belt it on, or whatever you think you need to do to keep the darn thing safe. Until then please stay off our side, you're not helping.

Dude, you dropped your gun in a public place. I don't see the humor...I see it as dangerous and irresponsible. I would be too embarrassed to share that on the Internet. But that's just me... I'm not flame retarded.

As dumb as the OP's story is, it was an accident, and hopefully will be learned from and not repeated. I must say however, that Scratch's story takes idiocy to a whole new level. Voluntarily exposing your weapon to a room full of people you may or may not know just so you can maintain your hard-earned reputation as "the moron who loves showing his awesome ass-tattoo to everyone anytime the word 'tattoo' is mentioned in public" seems beyond stupid.

While I firmly believe in and support the right to keep and bear arms, I also believe that it's a right that many people should voluntarily exclude themselves from exercising. Scratch, you sure sound like one of these folks. It comes with a lot of responsibility, and should not to be taken lightly.
