Uzi fun at the range

Postby Scratch on Mon Jul 02, 2012 4:19 pm

I got some more range time in with the Uzi yesterday and remembered to bring the camera this time so I thought I’d share some pics with you all. I also brought along my G17, a few boxes of Wolf WPA steel cases, and some hollow point handloads.

I started out on the pistol range and started loading mags, before setting up some targets.

Here’s a picture with a couple 20 shot groups at 10 yards with the Uzi.

Then I went back to 20 yards, also a 20 shot group.

This is at 25 yards, this is a 10 shot group.

Then I went over to the rifle range and shot at 50 yards with the Uzi, all on paper!

This is the Uzi at 100 yards.

9 out of 10 on a paper plate at 100 yard, with irons and cheap steel cased handgun ammo… I’m very impressed with this little guy! It’s very fun to shoot, and I’m so glad I added it to my collection!

I had no problems at all with this Century build, UC9 9mm carbine…. shooting FMJ’s. Whenever I threw in some HP’s though, there were feeding problems. The tip of the bullet would hit the edge of the barrel almost every time. I’ve seen some AK barrels with a ground edge to help feed the bullet tip in, I’m not sure if that’s what this needs or not but it looks like that would get rid of the problem. I’m checking in with the experts at Uzitalk.com, although so far, the response I’ve gotten from them is to just use FMJ since they were designed for ball ammo.

Very nice! Ive considered a semi Uzi before, just haven't been able to pull the trigger. :? Shot groups were impressive for the little guy, might have to reconsider!

Yeah I fought with myself for a while wondering if an Uzi would be any fun at all, not full auto. It's as fun as my other SA's, plus I love the look of it. I'm going to make a nice custom padded case for it also, since it breaks down so easily.

Well I decided to take the dremel tool to my barrel to try to fix my Hollow Point problem... and I'm glad I did! the thing feeds hollow points great now! I ran about 400 through it these past few days, with no problems at all using multiple mags. I did have 2 FTE's though, so I'll have to try and look into that as well. I also noticed that the firing pin strike mark is off center quite a bit, just about at the edge of the primer. It doesn't cause a problem with my reloads, but is this something I should try to fix and if so... anybody know what the common problem is?

Here's what I did to the barrel:
