I WON!!!

Postby devilmutt on Wed May 07, 2008 1:30 am

I checked my email today and saw I had a message from the USCCA, it said to call with in 24 hours and that I "would not regret it". I checked the time and saw I missed the 24 hour deadline by a good hour, I replied to the message saying I hope I didn't miss out on something good. The message came back saying "Hey! I am behind schedule, lucky for you- why don't you call me as soon as you can". I made the phone call, it turns out I was the random pick winner for the Referral Contest. I was told that I won a pistol! As I was trying to remember the handguns listed for the contest I was told that instead of messing with the transfer and FFl fee they would just send me a check for $800. All I have to do is take a picture of myself with the handgun and email it to them. I'm thinking of a Taurus 1911, it would be my first .45.

The only other contest I have won was a fishing trip to lake Michigan from Orvis when they had a shop in Rochester.

Congratulations. Never heard of them before. I just googled them, they look interesting.

The Taurus lost out to the Para Ordnance PXT. I picked it up at Hart Brothers on Friday, but have not had a chance to get out to the range yet.

Do they expect you to spend the full $800? Last I saw a taurus 1911 was under $500

My dealer in PA. He's a game warden there and sells guns on his off time. In his words "I dont really care if I only make $5 on a gun."
He charged me $400 for mine. But I have seen them in store for under 500.

I spent the full $800 and then some on the Para and 350 rounds. The Taurus I was looking at was $755 with Crimson Trace grips, he also had some with night sights for $616.

I have a quick question for the 1911 owners. Is a slide stop a drop in part? I want to install an extended slide stop on the Para, maybe the one from Wilson Combat. Thanks

The ones I have replaced were essentially drop ins. I had to hit one with a bit of 800 grit sandpaper for about 3 or 4 seconds to fine tune it but other than that they were an easy fit.
