Storm Lake Barrels

Postby DitchDR on Tue Aug 14, 2012 10:40 am

Anybody have an expeirence with Storm Lake barrels or any other aftermarket barrels.

Gun in question is a Springfield EMP 40 S&W looking to convert it to 357 Sig. Storm lake makes barrels to do this.

I purchased an oversize Storm Lake barrel for my M&P 9L and had it custom fitted to the slide. Total cost was $200. It took the gun from shooting a 6 inch group at 25 yards to a 1.5 inch group (from sandbag rest).
It's a quality barrel, but I'd have no way of knowing if it would help your particular gun. It helped mine a lot, but that's mainly because the barrel itself and the custom fitting addressed a mfgr design defect.

I have a Storm Lake .357 Sig barrel for my M&P 40c. Quality barrel, functions flawlessly.

I had a conversion barrel allowing my G22 to shoot 9mm, it worked as advertised without an issue of any type.

I've also had no problems with several Storm Lake barrels, they have worked well and they shoot good too.

Thanks guys appreciate it. And I think the "stupid dog" is Lone Wolf. And heres a cut and paste from the Storm Lake site. All StormLake barrels are proudly made in the USA.

But thats ok, I appreciate your opinon and will take a look at the bar-sto barrels as well.

I've also had great satisfaction from Jarvis Barrels.

FWIW, a few years ago, I ordered a "semi drop-in" ("requires very little to no fitting") bar-sto 9x25 for my 10mm Commander ... they left the hood very long ... took quite a bit to fit the bbl ... finally got it, chamber was then too short ... they cut it based on the long hood! :hammer: ... friggin bbl was almost $200 ... and when I called 'em, they wanted another $50 to re-cut the chamber!

I shelved it!

I've since determined the reason the gun didn't shoot 10mm, was because of the frame! ... the 9x25 would've ran ... that's all I was looking for!

Same gun ... couple years ago, Midway put a cheapo Swenson .40 bbl on sale for like $20 ... I bought that jest to give it a try! ... hood wasn't too bad ... but it otherwise took FOREVER to fit the bbl! :( Friggin' thing runs like a top, though! :o

FWIW, if ya really want accuracy, I'd look for someone who knows how to turn an oversize bushing down, properly! ... also, FWIW, I've done a few "drop-in" bbl's myself ... they always improved accuracy ... very noticeably! ... at which, I'd say custom bushing work ain't necessary! YMMV!
