Given the facts it sounds like most of the deaths were caused by the police it's time to go the route of England... Ban all guns for everyone even the police

Hell now that I think of it... Since all of the shootings take place where nobody is allowed to carry, it would be easier to do away with those type of areas.

Someone just shot someone in the head on the sidewalk in front of you. You pull your gun and are ready. The badguy starts to point his gun at YOU. If you don't shoot, he WILL shoot you.

There are people behind him.

I think this is going to be a delicate situation for NYPD to handle. It looks an awful lot like damned if you do, damned if you don't. The saving grace is that no one (innocent) was KILLED by police gunfire.

Sometimes **** happens. Sometimes that **** causes other ******* **** to happen. But as long as the other ******* **** doesn't stink more than the first ****, it might as well be roses.

You likely can't protect anyone after you've been shot. And the bad guy is already shooting people you were sworn to protect.
It comes down to you, or possibly some non-combatant getting shot. That might well be the reasoning of a LEO( although I won't speak for them)
For me, as a 'civilian' individual. it's a question of whose life is more important to me. Mine, or some stranger. A unfortunate situation for all involved.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

mostly, that's jest a colloquialism I like to use, now 'n then! ;)

... but now, having seen the video, them cops got no business carrying guns!i

so, if you gotta shoot someone in your house, ya jest fire straight away ... and to hell with your children?!

take a ****in' knee!

the guy was firing at no one ... 'til Fife showed up! ... and then, only at Fife! ... either be prepared to take cover, or wait for a better opportunity ... firing at civilians should never be an acceptable option!

that said, at that range, how could they possibly miss?!

Police = Civilians --- just so we're all clear on the terminology.

IMHO, can't really blame the police for shooting the bystanders. The criminal chose to commit his crime, make his escape and last stand on a crowded NYC sidewalk. He then pulled his 1911 out of his briefcase, and leveled it at the pursuing officers -- all but requiring the response they had. How are they to know the guy's intentions? Hindsight and Monday morning quarterbacking are easy from where we stand now.

This is the fault of the criminal. It's unfortunate that so many bystanders were wounded, but this can serve as an excellent example (as others have pointed out) of "Know Your Target and What's Beyond", and also how fast a "situation" can develop.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.
