Firefighter files complaint against MPD

Does anyone know anything more about this story?

I heard on the radio this morning that he is also a permit holder. According to the report the police confiscated his gun even though he had a permit on him. They said it was due to the fact that the county he got his permit in and his current county of residence are different.

Firefighter files complaint against MPD

A Minneapolis firefighter says police officers mistreated him because of the color of his skin.

On May 21, Elondo Wright called the police after his car was towed from a Minneapolis street. When the officers arrived, Wright says they quickly got rough with him.

I just watched the KSTP report. This absolutely sucks. What can we do to help this guy? Whom can we swamp with phone calls?

I just called the MPD Internal Affairs Department, and spoke with the Sgt. on duty. She was pleasant and seemed very aware of the situation, agreeing that the fireman's gun shouldn't have been confiscated.

Here is the number: (612) 673-3074

I know Wright as he used to work for the same security company I worked for. He did not work for me but did work for a close friend. Wright is a stand-up guy who proved to be honest and dependable. I think it sucks that he is going through this situation.

and this is a surprise Why?

Hell, cops are willing to take my kids for no reason...Why would they hesitate over a gun and a permit.

I'm not exactly sure what Farmerj means about the cops waiting to take his kids, but let's remember that there are MANY, MANY good cops out there doing the right thing everyday. For what ever reason, these cops choose not to follow the law. They seem to have an issue with the law for some reason and should be held accountable. However, let's not turn this into a cop bashing session. I know a lot of cops and they work their tails off to follow the law and do the right thing.

That's my 2 1/2 cents.

Valentine's Day my ex decided to have issues with my taking the oldest daughters phone away from her at 9 pm.

Her answer was to call the sheriff for a welfare check on the kids. When the sheriff shows up unannounced on my doorstep at 9:30 PM demanding to walk through my house. I ask for a warrant. Next thing I know they are walking my kids outside and taking them back to their mothers. I was threatened with arrest for obstruction of justice and my kids were questioned outside the home without my presence.

All because I asked for a search warrant.

Please, Someone refresh my believe that the police are here to serve and protect.

As a society, we ourselves are to blame because we allow our politicians and legal system to propagate these circumstances. We cry out that the system is broke and needs to be fixed, yet we continue to elect the same garbage back into office without holding them accountable.

So to see this and other crud happen in the guise of police duty. Does not surprise me.

I guess firefighters aren't special enough.

Subd. 7a. Change of address; loss or destruction of permit.
(a) Within 30 days after changing permanent address, or within 30 days of having lost or destroyed the permit card, the permit holder must notify the issuing sheriff of the change, loss, or destruction. Failure to provide notification as required by this subdivision is a petty misdemeanor. The fine for a first
offense must not exceed $25. Notwithstanding section 609.531, a firearm carried in violation of this paragraph is not subject to forfeiture

Let me try:

It sucks that some cops are putting him through this situation.

...there are MANY, MANY good cops out there doing the right thing everyday.

Yup, but until they start turning in their corrupt brothers in blue, they are part of the problem.
For what ever reason, these cops choose not to follow the law.

A big part of the reason, I am certain, is the knowledge that they would get away with it.
They seem to have an issue with the law for some reason and should be held accountable.

And I should get a pony. Guess which will happen first?
However, let's not turn this into a cop bashing session.

Agreed. Let's limit ourselves to bashing these cops, and their brother officers and supervisors that watch them and do nothing.
I know a lot of cops and they work their tails off to follow the law and do the right thing.

...until it comes to holding "one of their own" to any standard of conduct or lawfulness, it seems.
