I know this site is for guns, but anyone else sitting in the deer stand this morning with a stick and string?

Good luck to all!

Yep.

Saw two does an hour ago, but was preoccupied with safety checking my cam axle E clips and they saw me first.

Since we got demoted to Humble Crap (hunters choice) this year, and I can only take one deer honestly (wife isn't commiting to hunt yet), I'm torn between record shortest personal season, and holding out for a nice 3.5+ yr old 8pt brawler I've got hanging around. Just gotta go with my gut when a shot opportunity arrives.

As we speak, the bur oak I'm perched in is bombing me. :) The tree rats are in high gear caching and stashing.

Where I normally hunt its management this year so that's ok, but where I am today it's hunters choice... Not a big fan. I haven't seen anything yet though there is a tree rat that I'm thinking about strangling if he doesn't shut the #*%> up... Haha

Resident does, that is. No sign of any of the three boys.

I'm on the junction of the main arterial trail through the property, and the draw which opens up into a spring seep - the best water on the surrounding 400 or so acres.

The ladies recently discovered my PTT and alsike clover plot, and that's probably where they all are right now. The turnip greens are 18" in some areas, which is a mouth full for a 100# doe. I'm not sure the boys know it isn't just weeds like my other clearings are this year. No sign of them in it yet.

The funny thing is I hadn't made it very far into the woods when I walked up on her off to the side of my atv trail. She stood there staring at me, I didn't have a bolt in yet and my crossbow was shouldered, she just stood there watching as I loaded and as I put the hairs on her I was thinking "if you're this dumb..." So I shot her at 20yds. :D

Not a big doe, but I'm not sure she isn't a big fawn. Yummy eating (fork cutting tenderness!), and a beautiful reddish summer pelt. I've wanted a pelt that color since before I ever put a hole in a deer. So I got a tag-out on opening day, awesome food, and my dream pelt this year. I can also stop tip toeing around and get back to timber management when my neck forgives me for this past weeks transgressions.

I'm also fully sick of spending every weekend with my in-laws, so I can drop back the brainerd time til trapping season starts.

It was a good deer for me.

Thanks! :)

The momma with twins started moulting the middle of August, so I thought for sure they'd all be grey by now. Sometimes it's good to be wrong.

My first deer ever was a 160# doe, so they all seem small to me. :D I almost got a hernia trying to get that girl in the truck. It was in a field where I was instructed not to gut it, so I had to drag her whole. I had permission to hunt, the farmer didn't want yotes coming more than usual.

I know what that's like. Up where I am now it's gut them wherever and where I hunt back home it's either gut them wherever or haul them back full.
