PF9 Failure (with pictures)

Postby ktech on Sun Sep 23, 2012 11:20 pm

So, I was shooting my PF9 the other day and I boxed the little guy up and brought it home.
When I got home, I racked the slide back to clear it and I saw this:

Let's look a bit closer...

Yep, completely sheared off. Here it is disassembled, and a close-up:

Anybody have any suggestions or ideas why this might have happened?
The only thing I can think of is the pin must have worked loose while shooting and gotten sheared off either while I was shooting or by me racking the slide... which is disconcerting at best.

On a related note, does anybody know of a good single-stack 9mm carry pistol?
Looks like I'm in the market, because I don't trust Kel-Tec any more.

My pf-9 looks a little different....
the two raised heads on the (metal?) pins holding the two halves of the gun together are flat on mine.
....and I think mine are plastic.
Did yours come this way or was it a mod?

I'm also noticing some wear around the cut out in the slide where the rectangular head of the rod sits.
It also looks like the 'wire' in the slide that acts as a 'keeper' has some wear.

Post the pix to http://www.thektog.org/forum/f95/ and they can tell you what you've got.

I'd send the whole works back to Kel-Tec and I think they will essentially send you a new gun.
any other symptoms? Dropping Mags? FTE?

No issues with mine, want another one. Let me know if you want to get rid of it. Curious, how many rounds do you have through it?

+1 to the flat pins. Do you know what year your gun is? I thought older kel-tecs are grandfathered in to the old transferrable lifetime warranty.

After letting 4 people shoot my kahr pm9 they went out and boughr their own, just saying. Cm9 is a good option too if you're looking to spend a little less

I haven't put any +p through it; the pins aren't flat because they're the (Kel-Tec manufactured) screws for the pocket clip which I've since removed, but I left the screws.
Not sure of a full round count, as I am not the original owner.
I will be contacting Kel-Tec customer support this week and I'll update you as things progress.
