Forgive my ignorance, but for matches such as you were describing in this thread, are there limits to what types of calibers are used? I guess what I mean is, do does your pistol need to be centerfire, or would my Ruger 22/45 work for something like this?
I see I just missed last weekends event. Are there more of them scheduled for this fall? Do you need to be a member of the gun club to enter them?
Thanks for any info guys!
Typically, in "
action" shooting (
USPSA/IPSC, IDPA, SASS) .38spl/9mm+ is req'd!
In some cases, "
falling" steel targets are used ... and calibrated to a minimum "
power factor" (
.38spl/9mm) ... at which, anything less will fail to knock it down!
It's purdy late in the season ... ya can still find a match here 'n there ... but if you're lacking gear, by the time ya get it all together, it may be too late!
There may be a winter match here 'n there ... but that'd be very few 'n far between!
Best bet, at this point, would be to check with Skyrock ... he runs the indoor matches at Burnsville Pistol Range ... but I have no clue, with the fire they had, if/when they'll be ready to start those, again!
Otherwise, there's an IDPA club that runs winter matches at Bill's Robbinsdale ... someone'll be along with a link!
Indoor is ok ... but outdoor is a totally different experience! No problem gettin' yer feet wet with an indoor match/league ... but be sure to check out the outdoor matches, next summer!
I know of no host range which requires membership to shoot these types of matches! ... that said, IIRC, IDPA requires membership in IDPA, to shoot their matches! USPSA only requires membership, for bigger matches (
Section, Area ... Nationals) ... all of those are pre-registration ... so ya'd know it, if it was one of them!
