JP Enterprises AR build - opinions sought

Postby lucycan on Mon Nov 26, 2012 8:25 am

Go easy on me as this is my first post ;)

Looking to build my first AR, a .223. I have been looking at JP parts as I have been told they are of excellent quality and I like the look. Looking to spend in the $2k range without optics.

I'll use this build for recreational shooting.

Can anyone share their experiences with JP?

Thank you!

You will have to list out what JP parts you will be using unless you are buying some complete assemblies and putting them on together to get better info.

Jeez, $2000 without optic gives you a lot of room to use parts of known excellent quality. BCM, DD, Colt, or Noveske receivers, BCM or Noveske barrels, Giessele trigger.

JP Enterprises...their reputation is that of consumer-quality parts, on the order of Bushmaster, DPMS, RRA. If you're looking to build a budget range toy and aren't concerned so much about reliability, using JP parts might be suitable for you. If high quality and reliability are important to you or if you might ever want to push the rifle hard such as in a typical carbine course, you might want to aim a little higher in your parts selection.

IMHO.

I'd just buy a sweet LaRue rifle instead, spend the extra money on a fancier than expected optic.

With that said, I recently built one with the same budget as you. Hypocritical statement, but you can't argue with a proven rifle.

I hate to turn anyone away from "building", but :? ...

$1,999

Off the top of my head, I can't say whether that rifle uses the "full mass" or "low mass" carrier?! ... that'd be somethin' ya'd wanna figure out, before ya start, either way! I have zero experience with such things ... so if anything, I'd tend to go with "full mass" ... but I could very well be missing the boat on some sorta advantage, there?!

I know of at least two guys 'round here who bought JP rifles in the last 12mo ... if they show up, I'd PM 'em and see what ... if anything ... they'd've done differently! ;)

Myself, I bought two of the JP-15 lowers with his trigger installed ... they're mil-spec lowers with JP triggers ... really nothin' more to say 'bout 'em! Image

I have a JP upper that I love. I think that it's exceptional. The accuracy and reliability are outstanding. I would put their rifles up against anyone's.

What sets jp lowers apart from the rest?

that's easy! ... the CTR-02 is a proprietary (not "mil-spec") milled/billet lower ... and the JP-15 "mil-spec" lower says "JP-15" on it ... and if ya pay 'nuff, it comes with a JP trigger, installed!

While I generally agree with your AR related posts Hmac, I think you missed the mark on this one. JP is pretty much the top choice of serious 3-gun competitors, where reliability is an absolute must. These guns get the snot run out of them and if they didn't work, they wouldn't still be on top and selling for top $$.

It's certainly possible. I don't have first hand experience with JP in the 3-gun world, only relating my perception of their reputation in the combat firearms world.

... like this? ... http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2012/04/20/us-army-places-order-for-24000-m4-carbines-with-remington/ ...

According to the Department of the Army’s Chief of Legislative Liaison, the Army today executed a delivery order to buy 24,000 M4A1s worth $16,163,252.07. The rifles will be made at Remington’s factory in Ilion, N.Y., from the Colt technical data package and will cost about $673.10 a copy. That’s a significantly lower price than the final order of Colt produced M4A1s the government paid $1221 for in a 2010 contract.

So ... what's the word on the "full-mass" vs. "low-mass"?! ... which did ya get?! ... or are ya runnin' mil-spec carrier/buffer?

Lucycan, Thanks for lunch today.

As you know, I put a JP trigger in my RRA lower and it is smooth as glass. No play at all and a crisp 3 pound break. Very nice.
