9mm load for any pistol

A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

I don't understand, perhaps I am mistaken and inexperienced but 9mm is a known quantity and there are hundreds of loads published for it and I would be willing to bet they will work in just about any 9mm.

Of course they will....just like the 9mm Winchester White Box from Walmart works in any pistol. (assuming it is in proper functioning order)

Firing safely and cycling the action of a number of different pistols 100% of the time when they all have different spring weights and characteristics are two different things. With full velocity loads this shouldn't be an issue, but when you're working up, it may be.

It's very simple, find an economical and pleasant to shoot load that cycles all of your pistols.

What he said.....I had a 9mm load I used for my three 9mm pistols and when I bought my sr9, it had a much heavier recoil spring and they would not cycle. Had to bump the powder up a little, but now they function in all my 9's

Guys I get that, I have reloaded more ammo in my life than most people can even conceive. What I am getting at is that there are hundreds of 9mm loads out there very close to NATO spec. I assure you they will run 99% of the guns in circulation.

There are always exceptions but this is not complicated at least to me.

Why would I want to plink with ammo loaded to NATO spec pressure? Harder on brass, harder on my guns, and takes more powder...

Alright, I'll bite.

Win 231, 4.3gr
115 gr FMJ (Precession or Montana Gold)
Win primers
COL 1.1"

It has worked in every 9 I have tried it in (25-30 or so).

In about the 250,000 rounds of 9mm that I have reloaded (yup, thats a close guess probably a few rounds shy) I have NEVER had ammunition loaded to SAAMI Spec fail to function a 9mm pistol. There is a SAAMI OAL, Pressure and so on and so forth. Most of your loading manuals are right there. This is NOT hard.

I am also having a hard time with this one. NATO Spec loads are going to fulfill the #1 Criteria for pistols - it is going to make the gun fuction to its potential every time. Frankly anything less does not really fit the design criteria of most 9mm's (they are all designe to work best with NATO Loads.)

NATO and SAAMI specs are about 1500 psi different. NATO spec is 36500psi and SAAMI is 35000psi .

Agreed.

It is however not advisable to load over SAAMI unless very carefully worked up and even then you could be putting yourself at risk for no reason.

Again noted.

Get close without exceeding published loads. There are hundreds of combinations that do this.
