They are selling for $60 a mag because people are buying them at $60 a mag.

Holy crap....Heffay finaly said something that makes sense :P

If people quit buying they'll be back to normal price in a week or less. They're already coming down if you know how to look.

There's other areas of the country where the supply is worse. Really, there's still a few rifles in the AR-15 floating around town here. In other areas of the country there just isn't. If you were in Louisiana and there wasn't a rifle left in the state and none for sale, you might just drop $1,800- on a Bushmaster and call it a day...cause you figure they'll be banned and cost even more. I've never paid an inflated price during a panic, but I think we do a little better than other places in the country.

For example, one of my best friends went to every gun shop in Casper, WY yesterday looking for .223 ammo or mags, as well as Glock mags. Cleaned out. Everywhere. He was mad I didn't grab the last couple .40 cal GLock mags I saw at Fleet Farm today and ship them to him....or some Wolf for that matter.

My wife's uncle hit up every shop in Fargo, ND today. He found some metal mags for $30 and bought the six they had left. He went to sign up Scheels "waiting list" of AR buyers....and it was 3,100 people long!!!! :o

He said he had a lead on a shop that might get a Colt SP6920 for him next week at $1,550, and he thought he was doing well....

Or Magpul is just happy to be guaranteed the profit margin they've always made. If Magpul didn't agree enough they could self regulate and not wholesale to clients that they see as "gouging".

Magpul is about as involved in the prices as Glock is involved with Gander's $699 specials. They don't care, they have production to worry about.

They are policing their product. Thanks for the insight. Not.

You could look at it a little differently, and it might change your perspective.

Instead of gouging, what you have are people willing to sell you the item you "desperately" desire. They're under no obligation to let you exchange their stuff for your money. By allowing you the opportunity to purchase it, but having to compete with everyone else for the finite resource, you are really fighting the other guy over the price - not the seller. Auctions are what they are - you found the one guy willing to pay more than anyone else.

I saw a market that favored my desired outcome, so I put merchandise into it. I'm supplying a need. Whether or not you agree that someone else's need is worth multiple times what you're willing to pay is relevant. Someone else is willing to pay, and so you have no grounds to be upset. BMW and Mercedes do the same thing with their cars here. Over in Europe, they're Ford and Chevy. Someone else is willing to meet their price, they've got no reason to cater to your demands for a lower one.

I wish drug users were as appalled as some of you, there'd be no wars over the stuff if people just complained "You paid 2000 for that kilo of coke in Nicaragua, and now you want 1.5 million dollars! How dare you!"

A question for those who think there's 'gouging' going on-

If you are looking to buy something- you decided you now really want a 30rd Magpul AR mag;
What's worse:

An item offerred for 2/ 4/ 5/ x last week's price
or
someone who won't sell to you at any price?

More power to people if they can cash in on this frenzy. Doesn't mean that I am going to pay what I consider to be ridiculous prices for gear. I got what I want before all this happened. Its called planning ahead. You don't go out looking to buy a snow shovel the day you have a blizzard...

Good thing we have yet another thread bitching and moaning about something. This is getting really tiresome.

To the two forum members who have used lines from my posts as their signatures, can't you quote Jesse Ventura or some other great Minnesotan instead of stealing mine? - LePetomane

The guys who didn't buy Apple when it was trading at $15 / share.

The guys who can't buy gas for $1.35 / gallon.

A guy that bought a diamond ring for his wife.

A guy who bought a used car AFTER "Cash for Clunkers"

Anyway, it doesn't matter once half of the people who bought this stuff at extremely inflated prices realize they're gonna have to learn how to use it... That'll be too much work so they'll trade it off for a bigger screen TV.

But they did learn how to use it! The guy at the counter showed them what all the buttons do. Even the shooty button! :ugeek:
