You could always take everything off an AR you already own and slap it onto the new lower then sell the old lower on GB for 300% what ya paid for it. :goofydance:

Thanks much for this!

Can I be the first to reserve a spot in this carpool?

Hey guys! Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I thought of something the other day - once everyone has their lower complete, most people are going to want some sort of finish on it. You can't ship it to a plater because it won't be serialized - you will have to do it yourself somehow, with a home ano kit, gunkote, cerakote, etc. Would anyone be interested in having their lowers koted here, prior to the build party ? The fire control pocket would be machined and the plating would not be in that area any longer, which is not a big deal, in my opinion. We would also be able to contrast cut your specific logo or information in the plating, and give it the same look as in the original lower pictures that I posted. Thoughts on this?

Sounds great! If there was a price list for the machining, the 80% lower and all the finishing work. That would be very helpful.

I would prefer to finish after milling. The fire control pocket isn't really the issue, but the trigger and hammer pin holes are. If the inside of those holes aren't anodized, they're prone to elongation with wear. This can be minimized by using anti-rotating pins, but I'd rather just finish it after all the machining work is done.

Could you update the head count and confirm you have enough 80% lowers for everyone interested?

Thanks much for this!

There is some truth to possible elongating after some use........in order for ano to be effective, it would have to be Type 3 hard ano. How would you go about getting that done, if you don't mind my asking?

On second thought, maybe this isn't such a good idea.....jshuberg brought up a good point - potential elongating of the holes may be a concern for some, for some it may not. Maybe we should just do the machine work and everyone can finish the lower out however they wish. Getting everyone on board with the same plating may be an issue as well.

Sounds good. I'd rather just get the machine work done and worry about the finish later. Did you come up with a price for machine work yet? I'm not sure if my friend is still in or not....depends on the total price.

It's a long way to drive so we have to figure gas into the cost of them as well.

There are quite a few places around town the can do type III hard anodizing. I'm sure someone would be willing to do it for me. As far as legalities are concerned, as long as I'm on site while the work is done, then it hasn't left my possession. I might have to throw a few extra dollars at them for the hassle, but I'm sure there's at least one place that would be willing to do the work.

I haven't actually called around though. If I find a place that's willing to do this, I'll post the info to this thread.

I would love to get in on this also if there will be enough lowers. I think I would get it anodized on my own time around here. I would be happy to drive a group from the cities.

We work with parts all the time that get hard ano'd after we machine them - they have it down to a science and it very reliable as far as thickness goes. Any inside features are typically machined .001 oversized per side........a .250 finished hole is reamed to .252 - comes back at .250.
