Thanks for posting the link. Mankato is like my second home, after spending 5 years there getting drunk er, I mean, attending college.
I think something like this is better if it's shorter. If I already thought people shouldn't own those evil high capacity clips or deadly assault weapons, I think my eyes would glaze over after the first few sentences.
It's better - in my opinion - to keep it short and simple. For instance, how about an entire week of ads, and each one consisted of a pro-gun quote (like the ones he used in his big ad)? So, every day, a reader finds a quote by a respected founder of this country, and they think, "ya know, that's a good point". If we each took a major newspaper in the state, that would cover a lot of ground in a hurry.
Big speeches or long-worded letters are only good for two things - keeping those who support you fired up, and entertaining people who don't have anything else to do. The target audience isn't either of those - it's the people who don't have a lot of time, and have already been suffocated by the Distinguished Senator from CA's media machine.
Just a thought, and that's only my opinion.
